When day came, the council of the elders of the people gathered together, both the chief priests and the experts in the law. Then they led Jesus away to their council

The next day, because the commanding officer wanted to know the true reason Paul was being accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and the whole council to assemble. He then brought Paul down and had him stand before them.Paul looked directly at the council and said,“ Brothers, I have lived my life with a clear conscience before God to this day.”

They incited the people, the elders, and the experts in the law; then they approached Stephen, seized him, and brought him before the council.

After making Peter and John stand in their midst, they began to inquire,“ By what power or by what name did you do this?”
