He also asked,“ To what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use to present it?It is like a mustard seed that when sown in the ground, even though it is the smallest of all the seeds in the ground–when it is sown, it grows up, becomes the greatest of all garden plants, and grows large branches so that the wild birds can nest in its shade.”

So the chief priests and the Pharisees called the council together and said,“ What are we doing? For this man is performing many miraculous signs.If we allow him to go on in this way, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away our sanctuary and our nation.”

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will raise up an everlasting kingdom that will not be destroyed and a kingdom that will not be left to another people. It will break in pieces and bring about the demise of all these kingdoms. But it will stand forever.You saw that a stone was cut from a mountain, but not by human hands; it smashed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold into pieces. The great God has made known to the king what will occur in the future. The dream is certain, and its interpretation is reliable.”

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard how he might betray Jesus, handing him over to them.

saying,“ What should we do with these men? For it is plain to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable miraculous sign has come about through them, and we cannot deny it.But to keep this matter from spreading any further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.”
