使徒對百姓說話的時候，祭司們和守殿官，並撒都該人忽然來了。

他的政權與平安必加增無窮。他必在大衛的寶座上治理他的國，以公平公義使國堅定穩固，從今直到永遠。萬軍之耶和華的熱心必成就這事。

我們所傳的有誰信呢？耶和華的膀臂向誰顯露呢？他在耶和華面前生長如嫩芽，像根出於乾地。他無佳形美容；我們看見他的時候，也無美貌使我們羨慕他。

對他說，萬軍之耶和華如此說：看哪，那名稱為大衛苗裔的，他要在本處長起來，並要建造耶和華的殿。他要建造耶和華的殿，並擔負尊榮，坐在位上掌王權；又必在位上作祭司，使兩職之間籌定和平。

又說：「神的國，我們可用甚麼比較呢？可用甚麼比喻表明呢？好像一粒芥菜種，種在地裏的時候，雖比地上的百種都小，但種上以後，就長起來，比各樣的菜都大，又長出大枝來，甚至天上的飛鳥可以宿在它的蔭下。」

祭司長和法利賽人聚集公會，說：「這人行好些神蹟，我們怎麼辦呢？若這樣由着他，人人都要信他，羅馬人也要來奪我們的地土和我們的百姓。」

當那列王在位的時候，天上的神必另立一國，永不敗壞，也不歸別國的人，卻要打碎滅絕那一切國，這國必存到永遠。你既看見非人手鑿出來的一塊石頭從山而出，打碎金、銀、銅、鐵、泥，那就是至大的神把後來必有的事給王指明。這夢準是這樣，這講解也是確實的。」

他去和祭司長並守殿官商量，怎麼可以把耶穌交給他們。

「我們當怎樣辦這兩個人呢？因為他們誠然行了一件明顯的神蹟，凡住耶路撒冷的人都知道，我們也不能說沒有。惟恐這事越發傳揚在民間，我們必須恐嚇他們，叫他們不再奉這名對人講論。」

法利賽人彼此說：「看哪，你們是徒勞無益，世人都隨從他去了。」

你觀看，見有一塊非人手鑿出來的石頭打在這像半鐵半泥的腳上，把腳砸碎；於是金、銀、銅、鐵、泥都一同砸得粉碎，成如夏天禾場上的糠粃，被風吹散，無處可尋。打碎這像的石頭變成一座大山，充滿天下。

耶穌對那些來拿他的祭司長和守殿官並長老說：「你們帶着刀棒出來拿我，如同拿強盜嗎？

官長為百姓的緣故，想不出法子刑罰他們，又恐嚇一番，把他們釋放了。這是因眾人為所行的奇事都歸榮耀與神。
