saying,“ We found the prison locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”

“ We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”

“ We found the jail locked up tight,” they said.“ The guards were standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors, we didn’t find anyone inside.”

saying,“ Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”

saying, The prison- house we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

The Lord nullifies the plan of nations; He frustrates the plans of peoples.

I called on Your name, Lord, Out of the lowest pit.You have heard my voice,“ Do not cover Your ear from my plea for relief, From my cry for help.”You came near on the day I called to You; You said,“ Do not fear!”Lord, You have pleaded my soul’s cause; You have redeemed my life.

But whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into the middle of a furnace of blazing fire.There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the administration of the province of Babylon, namely Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego. These men, O king, have disregarded you; they do not serve your gods, nor do they worship the golden statue which you have set up.”Then Nebuchadnezzar in rage and anger gave orders to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego; then these men were brought before the king.Nebuchadnezzar began speaking and said to them,“ Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego, that you do not serve my gods, nor worship the golden statue that I have set up?Now if you are ready, at the moment you hear the sound of the horn, flute, lyre, trigon, psaltery and bagpipe, and all kinds of musical instruments, to fall down and worship the statue that I have made, very well. But if you do not worship, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire; and what god is there who can rescue you from my hands?”Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego replied to the king,“ Nebuchadnezzar, we are not in need of an answer to give you concerning this matter.If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will rescue us from your hand, O king.But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods nor worship the golden statue that you have set up.”Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with wrath, and his facial expression was changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego. He answered by giving orders to heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.And he ordered certain valiant warriors who were in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego in order to throw them into the furnace of blazing fire.Then these men were tied up in their trousers, their coats, their caps, and their other clothes, and were thrown into the middle of the furnace of blazing fire.For this reason, because the king’s command was harsh and the furnace had been made extremely hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego.But these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed nego, fell into the middle of the furnace of blazing fire still tied up.Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astounded and stood up quickly; he said to his counselors,“ Was it not three men that we threw bound into the middle of the fire?” They replied to the king,“ Absolutely, O king.”He responded,“ Look! I see four men untied and walking about in the middle of the fire unharmed, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!”

Who is there who speaks and it comes to pass, Unless the Lord has commanded it?

There is no wisdom, no understanding, And no plan against the Lord.

He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.

My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, since I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”Then the king was very glad and gave orders for Daniel to be lifted up out of the den. So Daniel was lifted up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.The king then gave orders, and they brought those men who had maliciously accused Daniel, and they threw them, their children, and their wives into the lions’ den; and they had not reached the bottom of the den before the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones.

And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,and said,“ You are to say,‘ His disciples came at night and stole Him while we were asleep.’And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and keep you out of trouble.”And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews and is to this day.

Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and left the temple grounds.

But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and leading them out, he said,

and they said,“ Sir, we remember that when that deceiver was still alive, He said,‘ After three days I am rising.’Therefore, give orders for the tomb to be made secure until the third day; otherwise, His disciples may come and steal Him, and say to the people,‘ He has risen from the dead,’ and the last deception will be worse than the first.”Pilate said to them,“ You have a guard; go, make it as secure as you know how.”And they went and made the tomb secure with the guard, sealing the stone.
