Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

『吾儕見獄門緊閉、守者外邏；啟之、則不睹一人。』

“ We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”

“ We found the jail locked up tight,” they said.“ The guards were standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors, we didn’t find anyone inside.”

“ We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them we found no one inside.”

“ The jail was securely locked, with the guards standing outside, but when we opened the gates, no one was there!”

“ We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing in front of the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”

saying,“ We found the prison locked quite securely and the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”

saying,“ Indeed we found the prison shut securely, and the guards standing outside before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!”

The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.

I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.Thou drewest near in the day[ that] I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth,[ that] he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.Then Nebuchadnezzar in[ his] rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them,[ Is it] true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made;[ well]: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who[ is] that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we[ are] not careful to answer thee in this matter.If it be[ so], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver[ us] out of thine hand, O king.But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego:[ therefore] he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.And he commanded the most mighty men that[ were] in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,[ and] to cast[ them] into the burning fiery furnace.Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their[ other] garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste,[ and] spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

Who[ is] he[ that] saith, and it cometh to pass,[ when] the Lord commandeth[ it] not?

[ There is] no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast[ them] into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him[ away] while we slept.And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said,

Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make[ it] as sure as ye can.So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.
