saying, The prison- house we found shut in all safety, and the keepers standing at the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.

“ We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”

Jehovah bringeth the counsel of the nations to nought; He maketh the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

and whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.There are certain Jews whom thou hast appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego. Then they brought these men before the king.Nebuchadnezzar answered and said unto them, Is it of purpose, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, that ye serve not my god, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made, well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that god that shall deliver you out of my hands?Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer thee in this matter.If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of thy hand, O king.But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated.And he commanded certain mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.Then these men were bound in their hosen, their tunics, and their mantles, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego.And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed- nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste: he spake and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the aspect of the fourth is like a son of the gods.

Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

There is no wisdom nor understanding Nor counsel against Jehovah.

He that sitteth in the heavens will laugh: The Lord will have them in derision.

My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he had trusted in his God.And the king commanded, and they brought those men that had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave much money unto the soldiers,saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.And if this come to the governor’s ears, we will persuade him, and rid you of care.So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying was spread abroad among the Jews, and continueth until this day.

They took up stones therefore to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.

But an angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them out, and said,

saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said while he was yet alive, After three days I rise again.Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest haply his disciples come and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: and the last error will be worse than the first.Pilate said unto them, Ye have a guard: go, make it as sure as ye can.So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, the guard being with them.
