耶稣进了圣殿，正在教导人的时候，祭司长和民间的长老来质问祂：“你凭什么权柄做这些事？谁授权给你了？”

公会采纳了他的意见，于是把使徒召回来打了一顿，再次警告他们不可奉耶稣的名传道，才放了他们。

那人说：“你以为你是谁啊？谁立你做我们的首领和审判官？难道你要杀我，像杀那个埃及人一样吗？”摩西听了，害怕起来，心想：“我做的事一定被人知道了。”

当时，犹太人质问祂：“你给我们显什么神迹来证明你有权这样做？”

他们听了这句话，就从老到少一个一个地走了，只剩下耶稣和那个女人在那里。

这时候，律法教师和法利赛人带来一个通奸时被捉的女人，让她站在众人面前，

他们宣告禁食，让拿伯在百姓中坐首位，又叫两名无赖当众作证指控拿伯咒诅上帝和君王。然后众人把拿伯拖出城外，用石头打死了他。事情办好了以后，他们就派人去把拿伯被石头打死的消息告诉耶洗别。
