And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News.For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ.And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.It’s true that some are preaching out of jealousy and rivalry. But others preach about Christ with pure motives.They preach because they love me, for they know I have been appointed to defend the Good News.Those others do not have pure motives as they preach about Christ. They preach with selfish ambition, not sincerely, intending to make my chains more painful to me.But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.

And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained.So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen.

The people will declare,“ The Lord is the source of all my righteousness and strength.” And all who were angry with him will come to him and be ashamed.

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor.

Some were persuaded by the things he said, but others did not believe.

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels— a plentiful harvest of new lives.

I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.Our lives are a Christ like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?You see, we are not like the many hucksters who preach for personal profit. We preach the word of God with sincerity and with Christ’s authority, knowing that God is watching us.
