But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord or speak in his name, his word burns in my heart like a fire. It’s like a fire in my bones! I am worn out trying to hold it in! I can’t do it!

Yet preaching the Good News is not something I can boast about. I am compelled by God to do it. How terrible for me if I didn’t preach the Good News!If I were doing this on my own initiative, I would deserve payment. But I have no choice, for God has given me this sacred trust.

We are witnesses of these things and so is the Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who obey him.”

Then go to your people in exile and say to them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says!’ Do this whether they listen to you or not.”

“ Get up and prepare for action. Go out and tell them everything I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them.For see, today I have made you strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured, like an iron pillar or a bronze wall. You will stand against the whole land— the kings, officials, priests, and people of Judah.They will fight you, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

For I am full of pent up words, and the spirit within me urges me on.I am like a cask of wine without a vent, like a new wineskin ready to burst!I must speak to find relief, so let me give my answers.

My heart, my heart— I writhe in pain! My heart pounds within me! I cannot be still. For I have heard the blast of enemy trumpets and the roar of their battle cries.

Balaam replied,“ Look, now I have come, but I have no power to say whatever I want. I will speak only the message that God puts in my mouth.”

They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples.

“ God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this.

“ The Spirit of the Lord speaks through me; his words are upon my tongue.

So now I am filled with the Lord’s fury. Yes, I am tired of holding it in!“ I will pour out my fury on children playing in the streets and on gatherings of young men, on husbands and wives and on those who are old and gray.

The Lord replied,“ Don’t say,‘ I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.

“ And we apostles are witnesses of all he did throughout Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a cross,but God raised him to life on the third day. Then God allowed him to appear,not to the general public, but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be his witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

And after Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul spent all his time preaching the word. He testified to the Jews that Jesus was the Messiah.

So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak?And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.

The Spirit lifted me up and took me away. I went in bitterness and turmoil, but the Lord’s hold on me was strong.Then I came to the colony of Judean exiles in Tel abib, beside the Kebar River. I was overwhelmed and sat among them for seven days.After seven days the Lord gave me a message. He said,“ Son of man, I have appointed you as a watchman for Israel. Whenever you receive a message from me, warn people immediately.If I warn the wicked, saying,‘ You are under the penalty of death,’ but you fail to deliver the warning, they will die in their sins. And I will hold you responsible for their deaths.If you warn them and they refuse to repent and keep on sinning, they will die in their sins. But you will have saved yourself because you obeyed me.“ If righteous people turn away from their righteous behavior and ignore the obstacles I put in their way, they will die. And if you do not warn them, they will die in their sins. None of their righteous acts will be remembered, and I will hold you responsible for their deaths.But if you warn righteous people not to sin and they listen to you and do not sin, they will live, and you will have saved yourself, too.”

While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.

You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. And we are witnesses of this fact!

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere— in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

from the time he was baptized by John until the day he was taken from us. Whoever is chosen will join us as a witness of Jesus’ resurrection.”
