When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

那時，耶穌說：「父啊，天地的主，我感謝你！因為你將這些事向聰明通達人就藏起來，向嬰孩就顯出來。

神卻揀選了世上愚拙的，叫有智慧的羞愧；又揀選了世上軟弱的，叫那強壯的羞愧。

猶太人就希奇，說：「這個人沒有學過，怎麼明白書呢？」

都驚訝希奇說：「看哪，這說話的不都是加利利人嗎？我們各人怎麼聽見他們說我們生來所用的鄉談呢？我們帕提亞人、米底亞人、以攔人，和住在美索不達米亞、猶太、加帕多家、本都、亞細亞、弗呂家、旁非利亞、埃及的人，並靠近古利奈的利比亞一帶地方的人，從羅馬來的客旅中，或是猶太人，或是進猶太教的人，克里特和阿拉伯人，都聽見他們用我們的鄉談，講說神的大作為。」眾人就都驚訝猜疑，彼此說：「這是甚麼意思呢？」

過了不多的時候，旁邊站着的人前來，對彼得說：「你真是他們一黨的，你的口音把你露出來了。」

彼得卻站在門外。大祭司所認識的那個門徒出來，和看門的使女說了一聲，就領彼得進去。那看門的使女對彼得說：「你不也是這人的門徒嗎？」他說：「我不是。」

拿耶穌的人把他帶到大祭司該亞法那裏去；文士和長老已經在那裏聚會。彼得遠遠地跟着耶穌，直到大祭司的院子，進到裏面，就和差役同坐，要看這事到底怎樣。

耶穌在加利利海邊行走，看見弟兄二人，就是那稱呼彼得的西門和他兄弟安得烈，在海裏撒網；他們本是打魚的。耶穌對他們說：「來跟從我，我要叫你們得人如得魚一樣。」他們就立刻捨了網，跟從了他。從那裏往前走，又看見弟兄二人，就是西庇太的兒子雅各和他兄弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上補網，耶穌就招呼他們，他們立刻捨了船，別了父親，跟從了耶穌。

既出去，到了門口，又有一個使女看見他，就對那裏的人說：「這個人也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的。」

耶穌見母親和他所愛的那門徒站在旁邊，就對他母親說：「母親，看，你的兒子！」

但這些不明白律法的百姓是被咒詛的！」

耶穌打發彼得、約翰，說：「你們去為我們預備逾越節的筵席，好叫我們吃。」

耶穌對那些來拿他的祭司長和守殿官並長老說：「你們帶着刀棒出來拿我，如同拿強盜嗎？我天天同你們在殿裏，你們不下手拿我。現在卻是你們的時候，黑暗掌權了。」他們拿住耶穌，把他帶到大祭司的宅裏。彼得遠遠地跟着。

有一個使女看見彼得坐在火光裏，就定睛看他，說：「這個人素來也是同那人一夥的。」彼得卻不承認，說：「女子，我不認得他。」過了不多的時候，又有一個人看見他，說：「你也是他們一黨的。」彼得說：「你這個人！我不是。」約過了一小時，又有一個人極力地說：「他實在是同那人一夥的，因為他也是加利利人。」彼得說：「你這個人！我不曉得你說的是甚麼！」正說話之間，雞就叫了。
