那时，耶稣说：“父啊，天地的主，我感谢你！因为你将这些事向聪明通达人就藏起来，向婴孩就显出来。

神却拣选了世上愚拙的，叫有智慧的羞愧；又拣选了世上软弱的，叫那强壮的羞愧。

犹太人就希奇，说：“这个人没有学过，怎么明白书呢？”

都惊讶希奇说：“看哪，这说话的不都是加利利人吗？我们各人怎么听见他们说我们生来所用的乡谈呢？我们帕提亚人、玛代人、以拦人，和住在美索不达米亚、犹太、加帕多家、本都、亚细亚、弗吕家、旁非利亚、埃及的人，并靠近古利奈的利比亚一带地方的人，从罗马来的客旅中，或是犹太人，或是进犹太教的人，克里特和阿拉伯人，都听见他们用我们的乡谈，讲说神的大作为。”众人就都惊讶猜疑，彼此说：“这是什么意思呢？”

过了不多的时候，旁边站着的人前来，对彼得说：“你真是他们一党的，你的口音把你露出来了。”

彼得却站在门外。大祭司所认识的那个门徒出来，和看门的使女说了一声，就领彼得进去。那看门的使女对彼得说：“你不也是这人的门徒吗？”他说：“我不是。”

拿耶稣的人把他带到大祭司该亚法那里去；文士和长老已经在那里聚会。彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到大祭司的院子，进到里面，就和差役同坐，要看这事到底怎样。

耶稣在加利利海边行走，看见弟兄二人，就是那称呼彼得的西门和他兄弟安得烈，在海里撒网；他们本是打鱼的。耶稣对他们说：“来跟从我，我要叫你们得人如得鱼一样。”他们就立刻舍了网，跟从了他。从那里往前走，又看见弟兄二人，就是西庇太的儿子雅各和他兄弟约翰，同他们的父亲西庇太在船上补网，耶稣就招呼他们，他们立刻舍了船，别了父亲，跟从了耶稣。

既出去，到了门口，又有一个使女看见他，就对那里的人说：“这个人也是同拿撒勒人耶稣一伙的。”

耶稣见母亲和他所爱的那门徒站在旁边，就对他母亲说：“母亲，看，你的儿子！”

但这些不明白律法的百姓是被咒诅的！”

耶稣打发彼得、约翰，说：“你们去为我们预备逾越节的筵席，好叫我们吃。”

耶稣对那些来拿他的祭司长和守殿官并长老说：“你们带着刀棒出来拿我，如同拿强盗吗？我天天同你们在殿里，你们不下手拿我。现在却是你们的时候，黑暗掌权了。”他们拿住耶稣，把他带到大祭司的宅里。彼得远远地跟着。

有一个使女看见彼得坐在火光里，就定睛看他，说：“这个人素来也是同那人一伙的。”彼得却不承认，说：“女子，我不认得他。”过了不多的时候，又有一个人看见他，说：“你也是他们一党的。”彼得说：“你这个人！我不是。”约过了一小时，又有一个人极力地说：“他实在是同那人一伙的，因为他也是加利利人。”彼得说：“你这个人！我不晓得你说的是什么！”正说话之间，鸡就叫了。
