那时候，耶稣说：“父啊，天地的主，我赞美你，因为你把这些事向有智慧的和有学问的人隐藏起来，而向小孩子们显明出来。

然而神却拣选了世上愚拙的，为了使那些有智慧的羞愧；神又拣选了世上软弱的，为了使那些强壮的羞愧；

那些犹太人感到惊奇，说：“这个人没学过，怎么懂得经文呢？”

他们又惊讶又诧异，说：“看，这些说话的不都是加利利人吗？我们怎么会听到我们各自出生地的语言呢？我们当中有帕提亚人、米底亚人、埃拦人；也有住在美索不达米亚、犹太和卡帕多细亚、本都和亚细亚、弗里吉亚和潘菲利亚、埃及和靠近古利奈的利比亚地区的人；还有从罗马来的旅客，包括犹太人和入犹太教的人；克里特人和阿拉伯人。我们都听见他们用我们的语言述说神伟大的作为！”众人又惊讶又困惑，彼此问：“这是什么意思呢？”

过了一会儿，旁边站着的人过来对彼得说：“你真的也是与他们一伙的，因为连你的口音也把你暴露了。”

彼得却站在门外。后来，大祭司认识的那个门徒出来，对看门的说了一声，就把彼得带了进去。那看门的女仆问彼得：“你不也是这个人的门徒吗？”彼得说：“我不是。”

拘捕耶稣的人把他带到大祭司该亚法那里。经文士们和长老们已经聚集在那里了。彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直到大祭司的院子。他进到里面，与差役们坐在一起，想看看结果如何。

耶稣在加利利湖边行走，看见兄弟两个人，就是那叫彼得的西门和他弟弟安得烈，正在湖里撒网；他们本来是渔夫。耶稣就对他们说：“来跟从我！我将要使你们成为得人的渔夫。”他们立刻舍弃渔网，跟从了耶稣。耶稣从那里往前走，看见另外两个兄弟，就是西庇太的儿子雅各和他弟弟约翰，正在船上与他们的父亲西庇太一起修补渔网。耶稣就召唤他们，他们立刻舍弃了船，告别他们的父亲，跟从了耶稣。

他出去到门口，另有一个女仆看见他，对那里的人说：“这个人与拿撒勒人耶稣是一伙的。”

耶稣看到母亲和他所爱的那门徒站在旁边，就对母亲说：“母亲，看哪，你的儿子！”

这不懂律法的民众是被诅咒的！”

耶稣差派彼得和约翰，说：“你们去为我们预备逾越节的晚餐，好让我们能吃上。”

耶稣对前来对付他的祭司长们、圣殿守卫长们和长老们说：“你们带着刀剑和棍棒出来，就像对付强盗那样吗？我天天在圣殿里与你们在一起的时候，你们不向我下手。不过现在是你们的时候了，是黑暗掌权的时候了！”他们抓住耶稣，把他带走，押到大祭司的家里。彼得远远地跟着。

有一个女仆看见彼得坐在火光中，就注视着他，说：“这个人也与他是一伙的。”彼得却否认说：“你这个女人哪，我不认识他！”过了一会儿，另一个人看见他，就说：“你也是与他们一伙的！”彼得说：“你这个人哪，我不是！”大约过了一个小时，又有一个人肯定地说：“这个人真的也是与他一伙的，因为他也是加利利人。”彼得说：“你这个人哪，我不知道你在说什么！”他正说着的时候，鸡立时就叫了。
