That same day Jesus was approached by some Sadducees— religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question:“ Teacher, Moses said,‘ If a man dies without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name.’

But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them.“ You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed.“ Who warned you to flee the coming wrath?

The captain went with his Temple guards and arrested the apostles, but without violence, for they were afraid the people would stone them.

So God’s message continued to spread. The number of believers greatly increased in Jerusalem, and many of the Jewish priests were converted, too.

Very early in the morning the leading priests and the elders of the people met again to lay plans for putting Jesus to death.Then they bound him, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor.
