On that day some Sadducees( who say there is no resurrection) came to Jesus and questioned Him,saying,“ Teacher, Moses said,‘ If a man dies having no children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his wife, and raise up children for his brother.’

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them,“ You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence( for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).

Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.

So Judas, having obtained the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees,* came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

The word of God kept spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.

Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death;and they bound Him and led Him away, and handed Him over to Pilate the governor.

At that time the chief priests and the elders of the people were gathered together in the courtyard of the high priest named Caiaphas;and they plotted together to arrest Jesus covertly and kill Him.

And they* sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone.

and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of high priestly descent.

Remember the word that I said to you,‘ A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they followed My word, they will follow yours also.
