他去同祭司長和守殿官們商議，要怎樣把耶穌送交給他們。

他們又聳動了人民、長老和經學士、突然而來、抓住司提反，把他帶到議院，

保羅看出他們有一部分是撒都該人，另有一部分是法利賽人，就在議院中喊着說：『同人弟兄們，我是法利賽人，是法利賽人的子孫；我受審判、是為了盼望死人之復活。』他說了這話，法利賽人和撒都該人就起了紛爭；民眾也分裂了。因為撒都該人說沒有復活，也沒有天使，沒有鬼靈；法利賽人卻三樣都承認的。於是起了大喧嚷，有幾個法利賽黨的經學士站起來力爭說：『我們看不出這個人有甚麼惡呀；萬一有鬼靈或天使對他說過話、可怎麼辦呢？』

當那一天，有說沒有復活之事的撒都該人上耶穌跟前來，詰問他，說：『先生，摩西說過：「人若死了，沒有孩子，他弟弟該續娶他的妻子，為他哥哥樹立後裔」。

約翰看見許多法利賽人和撒都該人來、要受洗，便對他們說：『毒蛇的種啊，誰指示你們逃避將來的上帝義怒呢？

於是守殿官同差役去，把使徒帶來，並沒有用暴力，因為怕人民，恐怕他們被人用石頭打死。

守殿官和祭司長聽見了這些報告的話，心裏很為難，不知道事情要怎樣變化。

於是猶大領了兵隊、和祭司長跟法利賽人的差役，帶着燈籠火把和武器來到那裏。

祭司長和長老挑唆羣眾、求要巴拉巴而殺滅耶穌。

你們要這樣行：你們中間的祭司和利未人、安息日上班的、三分之一要把守各門檻；三分之一要在王宮，三分之一要在基址門：眾民要在永恆主之殿的院子。除了祭司和供職的利未人以外、任何人都不可進永恆主的殿；這些人可以進去，因為他們聖別；眾民總要遵守永恆主所吩咐守的。利未人各要四圍環繞着王，手拿軍器；凡闖進殿的必被處死；王入王出、你們都要和他在一起。』利未人和猶大眾人就照祭司耶何耶大一切所吩咐的去行；各帶安息日上班同安息日下班的人來；因為祭司耶何耶大不許他們休班。祭司耶何耶大便將上帝殿裏屬大衛王的矛、盾牌、武器、交給百夫長們；

上帝之道一直興旺着；在耶路撒冷、門徒的數目加得極多；一大羣祭司也聽從了這個信仰。

到了早晨，眾祭司長和民間的長老商議怎樣陷害耶穌、來治死他；就把他捆住，帶走，送交給總督彼拉多。

那時祭司長和民間的長老聚集在稱為該亞法的大祭司院子裏，一同計議，要用詭計抓住耶穌，殺他。

祭司長同經學士和長老也都這樣戲弄着說：

他們這才領悟他不是說要注意提防餅的酵，乃是說要提防法利賽人和撒都該人的教訓。

便差遣他們的門徒同希律黨人來見耶穌，說：『先生，我們曉得你很真誠；你以真誠教授上帝的道路；甚麼人你都不在乎，因為你不看人的外貌。

大祭司亞拿、和該亞法、約拿單、亞力山大、以及所有屬於大祭司家族的人、都在座。

你們要記得我對你們說過的話：「僕人不比主人大」。他們若逼迫了我，也必逼迫你們；若遵守了我的話，也必遵守你們的話。
