What the prophets said was meant for you. The covenant God made with your people long ago is yours also. He said to Abraham,‘ All nations on earth will be blessed through your children.’( Genesis 22:18; 26:4)

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’

You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham,‘ Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham, And all the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.

It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off— for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham:“ All nations will be blessed through you.”

the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah, who is God over all, forever praised! Amen.

“ Fellow children of Abraham and you God- fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

You found his heart faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites. You have kept your promise because you are righteous.

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.

It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”

He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:

Then God said,“ Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him.

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed,

He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations,the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Isaac.He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant:“ To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.”When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it,they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another.He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings:“ Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.”

All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,

The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say“ and to seeds,” meaning many people, but“ and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.

But Israel reached out his right hand and put it on Ephraim’s head, though he was the younger, and crossing his arms, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, even though Manasseh was the firstborn.Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked faithfully, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,the Angel who has delivered me from all harm— may he bless these boys. May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they increase greatly on the earth.”When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim’s head he was displeased; so he took hold of his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.Joseph said to him,“ No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your right hand on his head.”But his father refused and said,“ I know, my son, I know. He too will become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of nations.”He blessed them that day and said,“ In your name will Israel pronounce this blessing:‘ May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.

Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him.

If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

to show mercy to our ancestors and to remember his holy covenant,

And do not think you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Esau said,“ Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? This is the second time he has taken advantage of me: He took my birthright, and now he’s taken my blessing!” Then he asked,“ Haven’t you reserved any blessing for me?”Isaac answered Esau,“ I have made him lord over you and have made all his relatives his servants, and I have sustained him with grain and new wine. So what can I possibly do for you, my son?”Esau said to his father,“ Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me too, my father!” Then Esau wept aloud.His father Isaac answered him,“ Your dwelling will be away from the earth’s richness, away from the dew of heaven above.You will live by the sword and you will serve your brother. But when you grow restless, you will throw his yoke from off your neck.”

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God’s truth, so that the promises made to the patriarchs might be confirmed

Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth— to every nation, tribe, language and people.

And they sang a new song, saying:“ You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Then Jacob called for his sons and said:“ Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come.“ Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob; listen to your father Israel.“ Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength, excelling in honor, excelling in power.Turbulent as the waters, you will no longer excel, for you went up onto your father’s bed, onto my couch and defiled it.“ Simeon and Levi are brothers— their swords are weapons of violence.Let me not enter their council, let me not join their assembly, for they have killed men in their anger and hamstrung oxen as they pleased.Cursed be their anger, so fierce, and their fury, so cruel! I will scatter them in Jacob and disperse them in Israel.“ Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of your enemies; your father’s sons will bow down to you.You are a lion’s cub, Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness— who dares to rouse him?The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch; he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk.“ Zebulun will live by the seashore and become a haven for ships; his border will extend toward Sidon.“ Issachar is a rawboned donkey lying down among the sheep pens.When he sees how good is his resting place and how pleasant is his land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor.“ Dan will provide justice for his people as one of the tribes of Israel.Dan will be a snake by the roadside, a viper along the path, that bites the horse’s heels so that its rider tumbles backward.“ I look for your deliverance, Lord.“ Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at their heels.“ Asher’s food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king.“ Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns.“ Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall.With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility.But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,because of your father’s God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with blessings of the skies above, blessings of the deep springs below, blessings of the breast and womb.Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.“ Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in the evening he divides the plunder.”All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing appropriate to him.Then he gave them these instructions:“ I am about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite,the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field as a burial place from Ephron the Hittite.There Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried, there Isaac and his wife Rebekah were buried, and there I buried Leah.The field and the cave in it were bought from the Hittites.”When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people.

Then God said to Abraham,“ As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.
