You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed.’

爾曹乃先知之後；天主與我祖立約、亦為爾曹。

And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham,‘ Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’

What the prophets said was meant for you. The covenant God made with your people long ago is yours also. He said to Abraham,‘ All nations on earth will be blessed through your children.’( Genesis 22:18; 26:4)

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed.’

You are the children of those prophets, and you are included in the covenant God promised to your ancestors. For God said to Abraham,‘ Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed.’

It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’

For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.”

I will bless those who bless you, but the one who treats you lightly I must curse, and all the families of the earth will bless one another by your name.”

After these things I looked, and here was an enormous crowd that no one could count, made up of persons from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb dressed in long white robes, and with palm branches in their hands.

And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, proclaimed the gospel to Abraham ahead of time, saying,“ All the nations will be blessed in you.”

who are Israelites. To them belong the adoption as sons, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple worship, and the promises.To them belong the patriarchs, and from them, by human descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever! Amen.

Brothers, descendants of Abraham’s family, and those Gentiles among you who fear God, the message of this salvation has been sent to us.

When you perceived that his heart was faithful toward you, you established a covenant with him to give his descendants the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, and the Girgashites. You have fulfilled your promise, for you are righteous.

Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, east, north, and south. All the families of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using your name and that of your descendants.

For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would inherit the world was not fulfilled through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.

But now give back the man’s wife. Indeed he is a prophet and he will pray for you; thus you will live. But if you don’t give her back, know that you will surely die along with all who belong to you.”

He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise,

God said,“ No, Sarah your wife is going to bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will confirm my covenant with him as a perpetual covenant for his descendants after him.

I will multiply your descendants so they will be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them all these lands. All the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.

He always remembers his covenantal decree, the promise he made to a thousand generations–the promise he made to Abraham, the promise he made by oath to Isaac!He gave it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as a lasting promise,saying,“ To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion of your inheritance.”When they were few in number, just a very few, and resident aliens within it,they wandered from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another.He let no one oppress them; he disciplined kings for their sake,saying,“ Don’t touch my chosen ones! Don’t harm my prophets!”

Let all the people of the earth acknowledge the LORD and turn to him! Let all the nations worship you!

Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his descendant. Scripture does not say,“ and to the descendants,” referring to many, but“ and to your descendant,” referring to one, who is Christ.

Israel stretched out his right hand and placed it on Ephraim’s head, although he was the younger. Crossing his hands, he put his left hand on Manasseh’s head, for Manasseh was the firstborn.Then he blessed Joseph and said,“ May the God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked– the God who has been my shepherd all my life long to this day,the Angel who has protected me from all harm– bless these boys. May my name be named in them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. May they grow into a multitude on the earth.”When Joseph saw that his father placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him. So he took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.Joseph said to his father,“ Not so, my father, for this is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head.”But his father refused and said,“ I know, my son, I know. He too will become a nation and he too will become great. In spite of this, his younger brother will be even greater and his descendants will become a multitude of nations.”So he blessed them that day, saying,“ By you will Israel bless, saying,‘ May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.’” So he put Ephraim before Manasseh.

After all, Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations on the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using his name.

And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to the promise.

He has done this to show mercy to our ancestors, and to remember his holy covenant–

and don’t think you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the nations, ascribe to the LORD splendor and strength!

Esau exclaimed,“‘ Jacob’ is the right name for him! He has tripped me up two times! He took away my birthright, and now, look, he has taken away my blessing!” Then he asked,“ Have you not kept back a blessing for me?”Isaac replied to Esau,“ Look! I have made him lord over you. I have made all his relatives his servants and provided him with grain and new wine. What is left that I can do for you, my son?”Esau said to his father,“ Do you have only that one blessing, my father? Bless me too!” Then Esau wept loudly.So his father Isaac said to him,“ Indeed, your home will be away from the richness of the earth, and away from the dew of the sky above.You will live by your sword but you will serve your brother. When you grow restless, you will tear off his yoke from your neck.”

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth to confirm the promises made to the fathers,

Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, and he had an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth– to every nation, tribe, language, and people.

They were singing a new song:“ You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were killed, and at the cost of your own blood you have purchased for God persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

Jacob called for his sons and said,“ Gather together so I can tell you what will happen to you in the future.“ Assemble and listen, you sons of Jacob; listen to Israel, your father.Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might and the beginning of my strength, outstanding in dignity, outstanding in power.You are destructive like water and will not excel, for you got on your father’s bed, then you defiled it– he got on my couch!Simeon and Levi are brothers, weapons of violence are their knives!O my soul, do not come into their council, do not be united to their assembly, my heart, for in their anger they have killed men, and for pleasure they have hamstrung oxen.Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce, and their fury, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel!Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies, your father’s sons will bow down before you.You are a lion’s cub, Judah, from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches and lies down like a lion; like a lioness– who will rouse him?The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; the nations will obey him.Binding his foal to the vine, and his colt to the choicest vine, he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.His eyes will be dark from wine, and his teeth white from milk.Zebulun will live by the haven of the sea and become a haven for ships; his border will extend to Sidon.Issachar is a strong-boned donkey lying down between two saddlebags.When he sees a good resting place, and the pleasant land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and become a slave laborer.Dan will judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel.May Dan be a snake beside the road, a viper by the path, that bites the heels of the horse so that its rider falls backward.I wait for your deliverance, O LORD.Gad will be raided by marauding bands, but he will attack them at their heels.Asher’s food will be rich, and he will provide delicacies to royalty.Naphtali is a free running doe, he speaks delightful words.Joseph is a fruitful bough, a fruitful bough near a spring whose branches climb over the wall.The archers will attack him, they will shoot at him and oppose him.But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,because of the God of your father, who will help you, because of the sovereign God, who will bless you with blessings from the sky above, blessings from the deep that lies below, and blessings of the breasts and womb.The blessings of your father are greater than the blessings of the eternal mountains or the desirable things of the age-old hills. They will be on the head of Joseph and on the brow of the prince of his brothers.Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning devouring the prey, and in the evening dividing the plunder.”These are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He gave each of them an appropriate blessing.Then he instructed them,“ I am about to go to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave in the field of Ephron the Hittite.It is the cave in the field of Machpelah, near Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought for a burial plot from Ephron the Hittite.There they buried Abraham and his wife Sarah; there they buried Isaac and his wife Rebekah; and there I buried Leah.The field and the cave in it were acquired from the sons of Heth.”When Jacob finished giving these instructions to his sons, he pulled his feet up onto the bed, breathed his last breath, and went to his people.

Then God said to Abraham,“ As for you, you must keep the covenantal requirement I am imposing on you and your descendants after you throughout their generations.This is my requirement that you and your descendants after you must keep: Every male among you must be circumcised.
