他們問耶穌：「律法教師為什麼說以利亞必須先來？」耶穌回答說：「以利亞固然要先來復興一切，但為什麼聖經上說人子一定會飽受痛苦、遭人蔑視呢？其實我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人們卻任意對待他，正如聖經的記載。」

天使對我說：「這些話真實可靠。賜聖靈感動眾先知的主上帝已差遣祂的天使，將那些快要發生的事指示給祂的奴僕們。」

耶穌回答說：「以利亞的確要來，他將復興一切。但我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人們卻不認識他，甚至還任意對待他。人子同樣也會在他們手下受苦。」

祂要坐下來，像煉淨銀子的人那樣潔淨利未的子孫，像熬煉金銀一樣熬煉他們，使他們憑公義向耶和華獻祭。這樣，猶大和耶路撒冷所獻的祭物就會蒙耶和華悅納，如同以往的日子、從前的歲月。

叫你們記得從前聖先知們說的預言，以及我們的主和救主藉著派到你們那裡的使徒所傳給你們的誡命。

因為預言絕非出於人的意思，都是人受了聖靈的感動，講出上帝的信息。

所有先知也都為祂做見證說，『誰信祂，誰的罪就能藉著祂的名得到赦免。』」

所以你們要悔改，歸向上帝，祂將除去你們一切的罪惡，

上天啊，眾聖徒、眾使徒和眾先知啊，為她的下場歡樂吧！因為上帝已經向她施行報應，為你們伸冤了。」
