一个生来瘸腿的被人抬来。他天天被放在那叫“美门”的圣殿门口，为要向进圣殿的人乞讨。

大家都惊讶不已，彼此谈论说：“这是什么事呢？他带着权柄和能力命令那些污灵，它们就出来了！”

他们又惊讶又诧异，说：“看，这些说话的不都是加利利人吗？

又看见那得了痊愈的人和他们一同站着，就无话可说了，于是命令他们到议会外面去，就彼此商议，说：“我们该怎么处理这些人呢？藉着他们，确实发生了一个明显的神迹，所有住在耶路撒冷的人都清清楚楚；我们也不能否认。

那些犹太人不相信他以前瞎眼而后来得以看见，直等到把他的父母叫来，问他们：“这是你们的儿子吗？你们说他生来是瞎眼的，现在怎么能看见呢？”他的父母回答说：“这个人是我们的儿子，而且生来就瞎眼，这些我们知道。至于他现在怎么能看见，我们就不知道了。是谁开了他的眼睛，我们也不知道。你们问他吧，他已经成年了，他自己会说的。”

官长们又威吓他们一番，为了民众的缘故把他们释放了。官长们找不出任何理由来惩罚他们，因为众人都为所发生的事不住地荣耀神。实际上，因神迹而痊愈的那个人已经四十多岁了。

众人又惊讶又困惑，彼此问：“这是什么意思呢？”

大家都对神的威荣惊叹不已。正当大家对耶稣所做的一切感到惊奇的时候，耶稣对他的门徒们说：

耶稣回答：“既不是这个人犯了罪，也不是他的父母犯了罪，而是要让神的作为显明在他身上。

原来，父喜爱子，把自己所做的一切都给他看，还要把比这些更大的事给他看，使你们感到惊奇。
