有一个生来瘸腿的人被人抬来。他们天天把他放在那名叫美门的殿门口，让他好向进殿的人讨饭。

众人都惊骇，彼此谈论说：“这是怎么回事？他用权柄能力吩咐污灵，污灵竟出来了。”

他们又惊讶、又惊奇，说：“你看，这些说话的，不都是加利利人吗？

又看见那医好了的人，和他们一同站着，就没有话可辩驳。于是吩咐他们到公议会外面去，彼此商议，说：“对这些人我们应该怎么办呢？因为有一件人所共知的神迹，藉着他们行了出来，所有住在耶路撒冷的人都知道，我们也无法否认。

犹太人不信他从前是瞎眼，现在才能看见的，于是把他的父母叫来，问他们：“这是你们所说那生下来就瞎眼的儿子吗？现在他怎么又能看见呢？”他的父母回答：“我们知道他是我们的儿子，生下来就瞎眼；现在他是怎样可以看见的，我们不知道；谁开了他的眼睛，我们也不知道。你们问他吧；他已经长大成人，可以替自己讲话了。”

众人因着所发生的事，都颂赞神，于是公议会为了群众的缘故，也因为找不到借口惩罚他们，就恐吓一番，把他们放了。原来藉着神迹医好的那人，有四十多岁了。

众人还在惊讶迷惘的时候，彼此说：“这是什么意思？”

众人都惊奇神的大能。众人还在希奇耶稣所作的这一切时，他对门徒说：

耶稣回答：“不是他犯了罪，也不是他的父母犯了罪，而是要在他身上彰显神的作为。

父爱子，把自己所作的一切指示给他看，还要把比这些更大的事指示给他看，使你们惊奇。
