有一個生來瘸腿的人天天被人抬到聖殿美門的外面，向進殿的人乞討。

大家都很驚訝，彼此議論說：「這是怎麼回事？祂的話竟然帶著權柄和能力，一吩咐污鬼，牠們就出來了！」

驚詫地說：「看啊！這些說話的不都是加利利人嗎？

又見那被醫好的瘸子站在他們旁邊，便無話可說，只好暫時把他們押下去，然後彼此商量說：「我們該怎樣處置這兩個人呢？整個耶路撒冷的居民都知道他們行了一個神蹟，我們無法否認。

猶太人不相信他以前是瞎眼的，現在能看見了，便叫來他的父母，問他們：「這是你們的兒子嗎？你們不是說他生來就瞎眼嗎？怎麼現在能看見了？」他父母回答說：「我們知道他是我們的兒子，生來雙目失明。至於他現在怎麼能看見了，我們就不知道了。是誰醫好了他，我們也不知道。他現在已經長大成人，你們可以去問他，他自己可以回答。」

官長實在不知道如何懲治使徒，只好再三恐嚇之後把他們放了，因為百姓都為這個神蹟讚美上帝。在這次神蹟中蒙上帝醫治的那個人已經四十多歲了。

他們都大感驚奇和困惑，彼此議論說：「這到底是怎麼回事？」

大家看見了上帝的大能，都很驚奇。他們正為耶穌所做的一切驚訝不已時，耶穌對門徒說：

耶穌說：「不是他犯了罪，也不是他父母犯了罪，而是要在他身上彰顯上帝的作為。

父因為愛子，便把自己的一切作為給祂看，而且還要把比這些更大的作為給祂看，叫你們驚奇。
