One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer— at three in the afternoon.

Morning, noon, and night I cry out in my distress, and the Lord hears my voice.

The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus.

One afternoon about three o’clock, he had a vision in which he saw an angel of God coming toward him.“ Cornelius!” the angel said.

When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted God’s message, they sent Peter and John there.

Cornelius replied,“ Four days ago I was praying in my house about this same time, three o’clock in the afternoon. Suddenly, a man in dazzling clothes was standing in front of me.

Six days later Jesus took Peter and the two brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain to be alone.

While the incense was being burned, a great crowd stood outside, praying.

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.

Then someone arrived with startling news:“ The men you put in jail are standing in the Temple, teaching the people!”

As I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came swiftly to me at the time of the evening sacrifice.

And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God.

Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter,“ It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic( for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore.

He took Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, James and John, and he became anguished and distressed.

The disciple Jesus loved was sitting next to Jesus at the table.Simon Peter motioned to him to ask,“ Who’s he talking about?”So that disciple leaned over to Jesus and asked,“ Lord, who is it?”

She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said,“ They have taken the Lord’s body out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb.They were both running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.He stooped and looked in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he didn’t go in.Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there,while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings.Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead.

Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said,“ Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together.”

At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed,“ O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command.

“ I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don’t want to go.”Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him,“ Follow me.”Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved— the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked,“ Lord, who will betray you?”Peter asked Jesus,“ What about him, Lord?”Jesus replied,“ If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.”

By this time it was about noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock.The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn down the middle.Then Jesus shouted,“ Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last.

Sacrifice one lamb in the morning and the other in the evening.

In fact, James, Peter, and John, who were known as pillars of the church, recognized the gift God had given me, and they accepted Barnabas and me as their co workers. They encouraged us to keep preaching to the Gentiles, while they continued their work with the Jews.
