島夷見蝮懸於保羅之手、相語曰、其人必殺人者、雖得救於海、理不容其生也、

土人見蝮懸其手上、相語曰：『是人必為一兇徒。雖自海中逃生、而天理仍不容其生。』

When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other,“ This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.”

Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit; Let no one help him.

For behold, the Lord comes out of His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; The earth will also disclose her blood, And will no more cover her slain.

This is the rejoicing city That dwelt securely, That said in her heart,“ I am it, and there is none besides me.” How has she become a desolation, A place for beasts to lie down! Everyone who passes by her Shall hiss and shake his fist.

And the natives showed us unusual kindness; for they kindled a fire and made us all welcome, because of the rain that was falling and because of the cold.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman,“ Has God indeed said,‘ You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

But wild beasts of the desert will lie there, And their houses will be full of owls; Ostriches will dwell there, And wild goats will caper there.The hyenas will howl in their citadels, And jackals in their pleasant palaces. Her time is near to come, And her days will not be prolonged.”

But he shook off the creature into the fire and suffered no harm.

Then they said to one another,“ We are truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us.”And Reuben answered them, saying,“ Did I not speak to you, saying,‘ Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us.”

Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.And His disciples asked Him, saying,“ Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

The beast of the field will honor Me, The jackals and the ostriches, Because I give waters in the wilderness And rivers in the desert, To give drink to My people, My chosen.

Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death, but he shall surely be put to death.And you shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may return to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.Therefore do not defile the land which you inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the Lord dwell among the children of Israel.’”

Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man.“ Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.

But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.Then the Lord said to Cain,“ Where is Abel your brother?” He said,“ I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”And He said,“ What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.

And all the people answered and said,“ His blood be on us and on our children.”
