夷人見蛇懸之、相語曰、是誠兇徒、雖免於海、義不容其伯也、

夷人見蝮懸繞其手、相語曰、是誠殺人者、雖得救於海、理不容其生也、

島夷見蝮懸於保羅之手、相語曰、其人必殺人者、雖得救於海、理不容其生也、

土人見蝮懸其手上、相語曰：『是人必為一兇徒。雖自海中逃生、而天理仍不容其生。』

When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other,“ This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.”

The people of the island saw the snake hanging from his hand. They said to one another,“ This man must be a murderer. He escaped from the sea. But the female god Justice won’t let him live.”

And when the barbarians saw the[ venomous] beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

When the local people saw the creature hanging from Paul’s hand, they said to one another,“ No doubt this man is a murderer! Although he has escaped from the sea, Justice herself has not allowed him to live!”

Or do you think that those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them were worse offenders than all the other people who live in Jerusalem?

And Jesus responded and said to them,“ Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans just because they have suffered this fate?

so that upon you will fall the guilt of all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

Do not judge by the outward appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

A person who is burdened with the guilt of human blood Will be a fugitive until death; no one is to support him!

For behold, the Lord is about to come out from His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their wrongdoing; And the earth will reveal her bloodshed And will no longer cover her slain.

This is the presumptuous city That dwells securely, Who says in her heart,“ I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, A resting place for animals! Everyone who passes by her will hiss And wave his hand in contempt.

The natives showed us extraordinary kindness, for they kindled a fire and took us all in because of the rain that had started and because of the cold.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any animal of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman,“ Has God really said,‘ You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

But desert creatures will lie down there, And their houses will be full of owls; Ostriches also will live there, and shaggy goats will frolic there.Hyenas will howl in their fortified towers And jackals in their luxurious palaces. Her fateful time also will soon come, And her days will not be prolonged.

However, Paul shook the creature off into the fire and suffered no harm.

Then they said to one another,“ Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; for that reason this distress has happened to us.”Reuben answered them, saying,“ Did I not tell you,‘ Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Now justice for his blood is required.”

As Jesus passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from birth.And His disciples asked Him,“ Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?”

The animals of the field will glorify Me, The jackals and the ostriches, Because I have given waters in the wilderness And rivers in the desert, To give drink to My chosen people.

Moreover, you shall not accept a ransom for the life of a murderer who is condemned to death, but he must be put to death.And you shall not accept a ransom for one who has fled to his city of refuge, so that he may return to live in the land before the death of the priest.So you shall not defile the land in which you live; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of the one who shed it.So you shall not defile the land in which you live, in the midst of which I dwell; for I the Lord am dwelling in the midst of the sons of Israel.’ ”

I certainly will require your lifeblood; from every animal I will require it. And from every person, from every man as his brother I will require the life of a person.Whoever sheds human blood, By man his blood shall be shed, For in the image of God He made mankind.

But for the cowardly, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and sexually immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Cain talked to his brother Abel; and it happened that when they were in the field Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.Then the Lord said to Cain,“ Where is Abel your brother?” And he said,“ I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”Then He said,“ What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground.Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.

And all the people replied,“ His blood shall be on us and on our children!”
