「你們這些蛇類，這些毒蛇的子孫！你們怎麼能逃避地獄的懲罰呢？

與南地動物有關的默示：他們把財富馱在驢子背上，把寶物馱在駱駝峰上，經過艱難困苦之地，就是公獅、母獅、蝮蛇和會飛的火蛇出沒之地，要到一個無益於他們的民那裡。

約翰看見許多法利賽人和撒都該人也來要受他的洗禮，就對他們說：「你們這些毒蛇的子孫！誰指示你們逃避那將要來臨的震怒呢？
