    保羅定睛看議院,說:『同人弟兄們,我憑極純善的良知在上帝面前做公民、直到這一天。』大祭司亞拿尼亞吩咐旁邊站着的人擊打他的嘴。於是保羅對他說:『粉飾的牆,上帝將要擊打你了!你,你坐着審判我,是按律法的,竟違背律法命令人擊打我啊!』旁邊站着的人說:『上帝的大祭司、你辱罵麼?』保羅說:『弟兄們,我不知道他是大祭司啊;當然囉,經上記着說:「不可說壞話罵你人民的官長啊。」』保羅看出他們有一部分是撒都該人,另有一部分是法利賽人,就在議院中喊着說:『同人弟兄們,我是法利賽人,是法利賽人的子孫;我受審判、是為了盼望死人之復活。』他說了這話,法利賽人和撒都該人就起了紛爭;民眾也分裂了。因為撒都該人說沒有復活,也沒有天使,沒有鬼靈;法利賽人卻三樣都承認的。於是起了大喧嚷,有幾個法利賽黨的經學士站起來力爭說:『我們看不出這個人有甚麼惡呀;萬一有鬼靈或天使對他說過話、可怎麼辦呢?』那紛爭越來越大,千夫長恐怕保羅給他們扯碎了,就命令士兵下去,將保羅從他們中間搶出來,帶進營樓。當夜,主站在保羅旁邊說:『放膽,你怎樣為了我在耶路撒冷鄭重作見證,也必須怎樣在羅馬作見證。』
