Three days later he called together the local Jewish leaders. When they had assembled, Paul said to them:“ My brothers, although I have done nothing against our people or against the customs of our ancestors, I was arrested in Jerusalem and handed over to the Romans.

保羅申辯說：“無論對猶太人的律法、聖殿或凱撒，我都沒有罪。”

保羅說：“我現在站在凱撒的審判臺前，這裡是我應當受審的地方。我對猶太人並沒有作過甚麼不對的事，這是你清楚知道的。

這是大祭司和全公議會都可以給我作證的。我也從他們那裡得到了寫給眾弟兄的信，就去大馬士革，要把那裡的人捆綁起來，帶到耶路撒冷接受懲罰。

於是千夫長上前捉住保羅，吩咐人用兩條鐵鍊捆住他，問他是甚麼人，作過甚麼事。那時眾人叫這個喊那個，吵吵鬧鬧，以致千夫長沒有辦法知道真相，只好下令把保羅帶到營樓去。保羅到了臺階下面的時候，士兵把他抬起來，因為群眾猛擠，而且有一群人跟在後面叫喊：“幹掉他！”他們帶著保羅快到營樓的時候，保羅對千夫長說：“我可以跟你講一句話嗎？”千夫長說：“你懂希臘話嗎？難道你不就是不久以前作亂的、帶領四千個殺手到曠野去的那個埃及人嗎？”保羅說：“我是猶太人，是基利家的大數人，並不是無名小城的公民，求你准我向民眾講幾句話。”千夫長准許了他，保羅就站在臺階上，向民眾作了一個手勢。大家安靜下來了，保羅就用希伯來語講話，說：

總督向保羅示意，叫他說話，他就說：“我知道你在本國審案多年，所以樂意為自己申辯。你清楚知道，自從我上耶路撒冷去禮拜，到現在還沒有十二天；無論在殿裡、會堂中或城裡，他們都沒有看見我跟人辯論，或煽動群眾作亂，也不能向你證明他們現在控告我的事。但有一件事我要向你承認，他們所稱為異端的這道，我正是根據這道來敬拜我祖先的神的。一切律法和先知所記的，我都相信。我靠著神所存的盼望，也是他們自己所期待的，就是義人和不義的人都要復活；因此，我常常勉勵自己，對神對人要常存無虧的良心。

祭司長和猶太人的首領，到他面前控告保羅。他們又要求非斯都，

保羅定睛看著公議會的各人，說：“各位弟兄，我在神面前，行事為人一向都是憑著良心的。”大祭司亞拿尼亞就吩咐站在他旁邊的人打保羅的嘴巴。保羅對他說：“你這粉飾的牆啊，神要擊打你！你坐堂要按著律法審問我，現在你竟然違背律法吩咐人打我嗎？”站在旁邊的人民說：“你敢辱罵神的大祭司嗎？”保羅說：“弟兄們，我不知道他是大祭司。經上說：‘不可咒詛你人民的領袖。’”保羅看出其中一部分是撒都該人，另一部分是法利賽人，就在公議會中大聲說：“我是法利賽人，也是法利賽人的子孫，我現在受審，是為了盼望死人復活！”他說了這話，法利賽人和撒都該人就起了爭論，會眾也分裂了，成為兩派。原來撒都該人說沒有復活，沒有天使，也沒有鬼靈，法利賽人卻認定這些都有。於是眾人大嚷大鬧，有幾個法利賽派的經學家站起來辯論說：“我們看不出這個人作過甚麼壞事；說不定有靈或天使對他說過話。”爭論越來越大，千夫長怕保羅被他們撕碎了，就吩咐士兵下去，把他從人群中搶救出來，帶到營樓去。當天晚上，主站在保羅身邊，說：“你要壯起膽來，你怎樣在耶路撒冷作見證，也必照樣在羅馬為我作見證。”

我實在是從希伯來人之地被拐來；就是在這裡，我也沒有作過甚麼事該被關在監牢裡的。”

騎兵到了該撒利亞，把信呈上總督，同時把保羅也交給他。
