这是大祭司和全公议会都可以给我作证的。我也从他们那里得到了写给众弟兄的信，就去大马士革，要把那里的人捆绑起来，带到耶路撒冷接受惩罚。

于是千夫长上前捉住保罗，吩咐人用两条铁链捆住他，问他是什么人，作过什么事。那时众人叫这个喊那个，吵吵闹闹，以致千夫长没有办法知道真相，只好下令把保罗带到营楼去。保罗到了台阶下面的时候，士兵把他抬起来，因为群众猛挤，而且有一群人跟在后面叫喊：“干掉他！”他们带着保罗快到营楼的时候，保罗对千夫长说：“我可以跟你讲一句话吗？”千夫长说：“你懂希腊话吗？难道你不就是不久以前作乱的、带领四千个杀手到旷野去的那个埃及人吗？”保罗说：“我是犹太人，是基利家的大数人，并不是无名小城的公民，求你准我向民众讲几句话。”千夫长准许了他，保罗就站在台阶上，向民众作了一个手势。大家安静下来了，保罗就用希伯来语讲话，说：

总督向保罗示意，叫他说话，他就说：“我知道你在本国审案多年，所以乐意为自己申辩。你清楚知道，自从我上耶路撒冷去礼拜，到现在还没有十二天；无论在殿里、会堂中或城里，他们都没有看见我跟人辩论，或煽动群众作乱，也不能向你证明他们现在控告我的事。但有一件事我要向你承认，他们所称为异端的这道，我正是根据这道来敬拜我祖先的神的。一切律法和先知所记的，我都相信。我靠着神所存的盼望，也是他们自己所期待的，就是义人和不义的人都要复活；因此，我常常勉励自己，对神对人要常存无亏的良心。

祭司长和犹太人的首领，到他面前控告保罗。他们又要求非斯都，

保罗定睛看着公议会的各人，说：“各位弟兄，我在神面前，行事为人一向都是凭着良心的。”大祭司亚拿尼亚就吩咐站在他旁边的人打保罗的嘴巴。保罗对他说：“你这粉饰的墙啊，神要击打你！你坐堂要按着律法审问我，现在你竟然违背律法吩咐人打我吗？”站在旁边的人民说：“你敢辱骂神的大祭司吗？”保罗说：“弟兄们，我不知道他是大祭司。经上说：‘不可咒诅你人民的领袖。’”保罗看出其中一部分是撒都该人，另一部分是法利赛人，就在公议会中大声说：“我是法利赛人，也是法利赛人的子孙，我现在受审，是为了盼望死人复活！”他说了这话，法利赛人和撒都该人就起了争论，会众也分裂了，成为两派。原来撒都该人说没有复活，没有天使，也没有鬼灵，法利赛人却认定这些都有。于是众人大嚷大闹，有几个法利赛派的经学家站起来辩论说：“我们看不出这个人作过什么坏事；说不定有灵或天使对他说过话。”争论越来越大，千夫长怕保罗被他们撕碎了，就吩咐士兵下去，把他从人群中抢救出来，带到营楼去。当天晚上，主站在保罗身边，说：“你要壮起胆来，你怎样在耶路撒冷作见证，也必照样在罗马为我作见证。”

我实在是从希伯来人之地被拐来；就是在这里，我也没有作过什么事该被关在监牢里的。”

骑兵到了该撒利亚，把信呈上总督，同时把保罗也交给他。
