Since many of them had no desire to eat, Paul stood up among them and said,“ Men, you should have listened to me and not put out to sea from Crete, thus avoiding this damage and loss.And now I advise you to keep up your courage, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only the ship will be lost.For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve came to meand said,‘ Do not be afraid, Paul! You must stand before Caesar, and God has graciously granted you the safety of all who are sailing with you.’

Mary said to the angel,“ How will this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?”The angel replied,“ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called the Son of God.

For he will order his angels to protect you in all you do.They will lift you up in their hands, so you will not slip and fall on a stone.

Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never send away.

Then the nations which remain around you will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt the ruins and replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken– and I will do it!’“ This is what the sovereign LORD says: I will allow the house of Israel to ask me to do this for them: I will multiply their people like sheep.

But the centurion was more convinced by the captain and the ship’s owner than by what Paul said.

Now the soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners so that none of them would escape by swimming away.But the centurion, wanting to save Paul’s life, prevented them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land,

For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the LORD.‘ I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.When you call out to me and come to me in prayer, I will hear your prayers.When you seek me in prayer and worship, you will find me available to you. If you seek me with all your heart and soul,

Then the devil brought him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the highest point of the temple, and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,for it is written,‘ He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you,’and‘ with their hands they will lift you up, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”Jesus answered him,“ It is said,‘ You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.’”
