Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul stood up among them and said,“ Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete and incurred this injury and loss.Yet now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.For this very night there stood before me an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I worship,and he said,‘ Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

And Mary said to the angel,“ How will this be, since I am a virgin?”And the angel answered her,“ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy— the Son of God.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

Then the nations that are left all around you shall know that I am the Lord; I have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it.“ Thus says the Lord God: This also I will let the house of Israel ask me to do for them: to increase their people like a flock.

But the centurion paid more attention to the pilot and to the owner of the ship than to what Paul said.

The soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any should swim away and escape.But the centurion, wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and make for the land,

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,for it is written,“‘ He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,’and“‘ On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”And Jesus answered him,“ It is said,‘ You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
