Since they had been without food for a long time, Paul then stood up among them and said,“ You men should have followed my advice not to sail from Crete and sustain this damage and loss.Now I urge you to take courage, because there will be no loss of any of your lives, but only of the ship.For last night an angel of the God I belong to and serve stood by meand said,‘ Don’t be afraid, Paul. It is necessary for you to appear before Caesar. And indeed, God has graciously given you all those who are sailing with you.’

Mary asked the angel,“ How can this be, since I have not had sexual relations with a man?”The angel replied to her,“ The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

For he will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways.They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Everyone the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never cast out.

Then the nations that remain around you will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt what was demolished and have replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken and I will do it.“‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: I will respond to the house of Israel and do this for them: I will multiply them in number like a flock.

But the centurion paid attention to the captain and the owner of the ship rather than to what Paul said.

The soldiers’ plan was to kill the prisoners so that no one could swim away and escape.But the centurion kept them from carrying out their plan because he wanted to save Paul, and so he ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land.

For I know the plans I have for you”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.You will call to me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.

So he took him to Jerusalem, had him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him,“ If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here.For it is written: He will give his angels orders concerning you, to protect you,and they will support you with their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”And Jesus answered him,“ It is said: Do not test the Lord your God.”
