When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.

Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves, but he was asleep.They came to him, and woke him up, saying,“ Save us, Lord! We are dying!”

that you were at that time separate from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world.

But immediately after the suffering of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken;

Then they said to him,“ What shall we do to you, that the sea may be calm to us?” For the sea grew more and more stormy.He said to them,“ Take me up, and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will be calm for you; for I know that because of me this great storm is on you.”Nevertheless the men rowed hard to get them back to the land; but they could not, for the sea grew more and more stormy against them.Therefore they cried to Yahweh, and said,“ We beg you, Yahweh, we beg you, don’t let us die for this man’s life, and don’t lay on us innocent blood; for you, Yahweh, have done as it pleased you.”

Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I suffered shipwreck. I have been a night and a day in the deep.

Then he said to me,“ Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say,‘ Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are completely cut off.’

You were wearied with the length of your ways; yet you didn’t say,‘ It is in vain.’ You found a reviving of your strength; therefore you weren’t faint.

But we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don’t grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

“ Keep your feet from being bare, and your throat from thirst. But you said,‘ It is in vain. No, for I have loved strangers, and I will go after them.’

Yahweh said to Moses,“ Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.”Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.They didn’t see one another, and nobody rose from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

But Yahweh sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.

For he commands, and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.They mount up to the sky; they go down again to the depths. Their soul melts away because of trouble.They reel back and forth, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ end.

He sent darkness, and made it dark. They didn’t rebel against his words.
