是夜、主臨葆樂曰：『勿餒！汝今為予證道於耶路撒冷、來日亦必得為證於羅馬也。』

職是之故、我雖屢欲詣爾、輒為事牽、迄今未克如願。今在此無復發展餘地、且綦欲一償就爾之夙願、擬於赴西班牙途中、順道訪爾、與爾盡數日之歡、然後由爾歡送、壯我行色。惟目前吾須先赴耶路撒冷一行、以賑濟諸聖徒。蓋馬其頓及亞該亞教友、自告奮勇、慷慨輸將、以助耶路撒冷之窮苦聖徒；其所以自告奮勇、有此豪舉者、蓋由彼視之、實屬義不容辭之事耳。夫異邦人既得與耶路撒冷人同享其靈心之事、彼其以區區物質供之、豈為過乎？一俟此事辦竣、並將捐款交代清楚、即當經爾處、而赴西班牙。吾知屆時、必得滿載基督恩寵而來也。

耶穌入葛法農有巴總來求曰：『主、吾僕癱痿。偃臥家中、苦甚。』耶穌曰：『吾來救之。』巴總曰：『主臨敝廬、何敢當也。第發一言、吾僕當愈。蓋予屬人權下、己亦帶有兵卒；命此去則去、召彼來則來、所諭於僕、罔有不從。』耶穌聞而異之、謂從者曰：『吾實語爾、如此篤信、在義塞人中、未之見也。

巴總探悉有亞力山大舟、將往義大利、即命吾儕登彼舟、

百夫長既睹經過情形、乃歸榮於天主曰：『斯真聖者也』

但巴總欲救葆樂、阻其計、命泳者躍入水中、先行登岸、

千總即來問葆樂曰：『請告予、汝果為羅馬人乎？』葆樂曰：『是。』

眾見千總親率所部、臨場鎮攝、毆擊遂止、

何如主一算。萬古永不易。

厥後、葆樂決意經馬其頓、亞該亞往耶路撒冷；自言至耶路撒冷後、必將一遊羅馬。

葆樂邀巴總至曰：『請攜此少年、往見千總、以彼有事相告。』

對曰：『巴總高乃流、正人也、敬畏上主、為猶太舉國之所稱道、近蒙聖天神指示、邀汝至其家、俾聆汝教。』

命巴總看守葆樂、令寬待之、並准其親友為之供應。
