This is the reason why I have so often been hindered from coming to you.But now, since I no longer have any room for work in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to come to you,I hope to see you in passing as I go to Spain, and to be helped on my journey there by you, once I have enjoyed your company for a while.At present, however, I am going to Jerusalem bringing aid to the saints.For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem.For they were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have come to share in their spiritual blessings, they ought also to be of service to them in material blessings.When therefore I have completed this and have delivered to them what has been collected, I will leave for Spain by way of you.I know that when I come to you I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.

When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,“ Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”And he said to him,“ I will come and heal him.”But the centurion replied,“ Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.

Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Those who come from Italy send you greetings.

And when we came into Rome, Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who guarded him.

There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy and put us on board.

Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying,“ Certainly this man was innocent!”

But the centurion, wishing to save Paul, kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and make for the land,

When the centurion heard this, he went to the tribune and said to him,“ What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.”

He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.

It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him,“ What have you done?”

Now after these events Paul resolved in the Spirit to pass through Macedonia and Achaia and go to Jerusalem, saying,“ After I have been there, I must also see Rome.”

Paul called one of the centurions and said,“ Take this young man to the tribune, for he has something to tell him.”

And they said,“ Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.

Then he gave orders to the centurion that he should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that none of his friends should be prevented from attending to his needs.

Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him.
