掃羅卻在摧毀教會，他挨家挨戶搜尋，把男女信徒抓進監裡。

聽的人都大吃一驚，說：「他不就是那在耶路撒冷迫害信徒的人嗎？他到這裡來不是要把大馬士革的信徒押去見祭司長嗎？」

亞拿尼亞回答說：「主啊！我聽見許多人說他對耶路撒冷的信徒大加迫害。他來這裡是得到祭司長的授權，要拘捕所有求告你名的人。」

我曾經把信奉這道的男女信徒抓進監獄，迫害他們，置他們於死地。大祭司和眾長老都可以為我作證。我還拿著他們寫給大馬士革的猶太人的信去拘捕那裡的信徒，押回耶路撒冷受刑。

當時，掃羅也贊成殺死司提凡。從那天起，耶路撒冷的教會開始遭到極大的迫害。除了使徒之外，門徒都分散到猶太和撒瑪利亞各地。

彼得四處奔波，來到呂大探訪那裡的信徒，

在眾使徒中我最微不足道，根本不配稱為使徒，因為我曾迫害上帝的教會。

世上敬畏你的人極其尊貴，是我所喜愛的。

我是奉上帝旨意作基督耶穌使徒的保羅，寫信給以弗所忠於基督耶穌的眾聖徒。

掃羅逃到耶路撒冷後，曾設法與當地的門徒聯絡，可是他們都怕他，不相信他是門徒。

我說，『主啊！他們都知道我從前搜遍各會堂，逮捕、毒打信你的人。當你的見證人司提凡為你流血殉道時，我自己也站在旁邊贊同殺他的人，還替他們保管衣服。』

你們都聽說過我信奉猶太教時的所作所為，我怎樣殘酷地迫害上帝的教會，試圖摧毀它。

但現在我要去耶路撒冷服侍當地的聖徒，因為馬其頓和亞該亞的教會欣然捐出了財物給耶路撒冷的窮困聖徒。

彼得伸手扶她起來後，叫那些在外面等候的門徒和寡婦進來，把活過來的多加交給他們。

把司提凡拉到城外，用石頭打他。指控他的人把他們的衣服交給一個名叫掃羅的青年看管。

我又見她醉了，因她喝了眾聖徒的血，就是為耶穌做見證之人的血。我看見她，非常驚奇。

掃羅繼續用兇狠的話恐嚇主的門徒。他去見大祭司，要取得授權書到大馬士革的各會堂搜捕信耶穌的人，無論男女，都要把他們押回耶路撒冷。
