Then Paul made his defense:“ I have done nothing wrong against the Jewish law or against the temple or against Caesar.”

Then Paul spoke up for himself. He said,“ I’ve done nothing wrong against the law of the Jews or against the temple. I’ve done nothing wrong against Caesar.”

Paul argued in his defense,“ Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I committed any offense.”

Paul denied the charges.“ I am not guilty of any crime against the Jewish laws or the Temple or the Roman government,” he said.

Then Paul made his defense:“ Neither against the Jewish law, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I sinned in any way.”

while he answered for himself,“ Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended in anything at all.”

And neither in the temple did they find me carrying on a discussion with anyone or causing a riot, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city itself.

After three days Paul called together those who were the leading men of the Jews, and when they came together, he began saying to them,“ Brothers, though I had done nothing against our people or the customs of our fathers, yet I was handed over to the Romans as a prisoner from Jerusalem.

They said to him,“ We have neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor has any of the brothers come here and reported or spoken anything bad about you.

Now looking intently at the Council, Paul said,“ Brothers, I have lived my life with an entirely good conscience before God up to this day.”

But Paul said,“ I am standing before Caesar’s tribunal, where I ought to be tried. I have done nothing wrong to the Jews, as you also very well know.

For our proud confidence is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and godly sincerity, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially toward you.

Now after several years I came to bring charitable gifts to my nation and to present offerings,in which they found me occupied in the temple, having been purified, without any crowd or uproar. But there were some Jews from Asia—who ought to have been present before you and to have been bringing charges, if they should have anything against me.Or else have these men themselves declare what violation they discovered when I stood before the Council,other than in regard to this one declaration which I shouted while standing among them,‘ For the resurrection of the dead I am on trial before you today!’ ”

For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon.”

They put forward false witnesses who said,“ This man does not stop speaking against this holy place and the Law;for we have heard him say that this Nazarene, Jesus, will destroy this place and change the customs which Moses handed down to us.”

And he even tried to desecrate the temple, so indeed we arrested him.

Moreover, Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah,“ In what way have I sinned against you, or your servants, or this people, that you have put me in prison?

My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me, since I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.”
