我回答他們：在被告還沒有與原告當面對質，並且對被控罪名還沒有獲得申辯機會以前，就把被告交出去，這不符合羅馬人的規矩。

於是彼拉多出來，到他們那裡，說：「你們提出什麼來控告這個人？」他們回答說：「這個人如果不是作惡的，我們就不會把他交給你了。」

但是我了解他並沒有犯過什麼該死的罪，不過他自己既然向皇帝上訴了，我就決定把他解送去。

保羅剛要開口，伽利奧就對猶太人說：「哦，各位猶太人哪！如果這真是什麼罪行或邪惡的案情，我理當容忍你們。

我父啊，請看！看看你外袍的衣擺就在我手中！我割下了你外袍的衣擺，卻沒有殺你。你要知道，也要看見我的手中沒有惡行或叛逆。儘管你在獵取我的性命，我卻沒有得罪你。「願耶和華在你我之間做判斷，願耶和華在你身上為我施行報應，但我的手絕不敵對你。

那些原告站起來圍著他提出來的罪狀，並不是我所認為的惡事。不過他們與他有一些爭議的問題，是關於自己宗教的事，以及關於一個叫耶穌的人——這個人已經死了，保羅卻聲稱他還活著。

耶和華我的神哪，如果我做了這事，如果我的手中有不義，如果我惡待那與我和好的人，或是無故掠奪我的敵人，就任憑仇敵追趕我，並且追上！任憑他把我的性命踩踏於地，使我的榮耀歸入塵土！細拉

後來我被告知將有一個針對這個人的陰謀，就立即把他解送到您那裡去，又吩咐原告們到您面前去告他。」

您親自審問他，就能了解我們控告他的這一切事了。」
