During their stay of several days, Festus discussed Paul’s case with the king.“ There is a prisoner here,” he told him,“ whose case was left for me by Felix.

Three days after Festus arrived in Caesarea to take over his new responsibilities, he left for Jerusalem,

When Herod saw how much this pleased the Jewish people, he also arrested Peter.( This took place during the Passover celebration.)

So to pacify the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.

And Agrippa said to Festus,“ He could have been set free if he hadn’t appealed to Caesar.”

Suddenly, Festus shouted,“ Paul, you are insane. Too much study has made you crazy!”But Paul replied,“ I am not insane, Most Excellent Festus. What I am saying is the sober truth.

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.

But Festus replied that Paul was at Caesarea and he himself would be returning there soon.

So Pilate sentenced Jesus to die as they demanded.As they had requested, he released Barabbas, the man in prison for insurrection and murder. But he turned Jesus over to them to do as they wished.

“ You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you are called to testify in a dispute, do not be swayed by the crowd to twist justice.

Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.

For the next two years, Paul lived in Rome at his own expense. He welcomed all who visited him,

“ I will hear your case myself when your accusers arrive,” the governor told him. Then the governor ordered him kept in the prison at Herod’s headquarters.
