Three days after Festus arrived in the province, he went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.

When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to arrest Peter too, during the Festival of Unleavened Bread.

Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them; and after having Jesus flogged, he handed him over to be crucified.

Agrippa said to Festus,“ This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

As he was saying these things in his defense, Festus exclaimed in a loud voice,“ You’re out of your mind, Paul! Too much study is driving you mad.”But Paul replied,“ I’m not out of my mind, most excellent Festus. On the contrary, I’m speaking words of truth and good judgment.

The fear of mankind is a snare, but the one who trusts in the LORD is protected.

Festus, however, answered that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to go there shortly.

So Pilate decided to grant their demandand released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.

“ You must not follow a crowd in wrongdoing. Do not testify in a lawsuit and go along with a crowd to pervert justice.

For am I now trying to persuade people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house. And he welcomed all who visited him,

he said,“ I will give you a hearing whenever your accusers also get here.” He ordered that he be kept under guard in Herod’s palace.
