They will burn it, and you yourself will not escape from them.’”But King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah,“ I am worried about the Judeans who have defected to the Chaldeans. They may hand me over to the Judeans to abuse me.”“ They will not hand you over,” Jeremiah replied.“ Obey the LORD in what I am telling you, so it may go well for you and you can live.But if you refuse to surrender, this is the verdict that the LORD has shown me:‘ All the women who remain in the palace of Judah’s king will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon and will say to you,“ Your trusted friends misled you and overcame you. You yourself will not escape from them, for you will be seized by the king of Babylon and this city will burn.’”Then Zedekiah warned Jeremiah,“ Don’t let anyone know about this conversation or you will die.The officials may hear that I have spoken with you and come and demand of you,‘ Tell us what you said to the king; don’t hide anything from us and we won’t kill you. Also, what did the king say to you?’If they do, tell them,‘ I was bringing before the king my petition that he not return me to the house of Jonathan to die there.’”All the officials did come to Jeremiah, and they questioned him. He reported the exact words to them the king had commanded, and they quit speaking with him because the conversation had not been overheard.Jeremiah remained in the guard’s courtyard until the day Jerusalem was captured, and he was there when it happened.

Seek the LORD while he may be found; call to him while he is near.

Sow righteousness for yourselves and reap faithful love; break up your unplowed ground. It is time to seek the LORD until he comes and sends righteousness on you like the rain.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,

Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear his voice,do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness,

Do horses gallop on the cliffs? Does anyone plow there with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—

You believe that God is one. Good! Even the demons believe— and they shudder.

I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is going to judge the living and the dead, and because of his appearing and his kingdom:

Then I saw a great white throne and one seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them.I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. “ Is not my word like fire”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ and like a hammer that pulverizes rock?

“ Submit your case,” says the LORD.“ Present your arguments,” says Jacob’s King.

John had been telling Herod,“ It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”So Herodias held a grudge against him and wanted to kill him. But she could not,because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing he was a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard him he would be very perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.An opportune time came on his birthday, when Herod gave a banquet for his nobles, military commanders, and the leading men of Galilee.When Herodias’s own daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl,“ Ask me whatever you want, and I’ll give it to you.”He promised her with an oath:“ Whatever you ask me I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”She went out and said to her mother,“ What should I ask for?”“ John the Baptist’s head,” she said.

For he says: At an acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you. See, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation!

and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels,when he takes vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strengthon that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed.

“ Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because I tell you, many will try to enter and won’t be ableonce the homeowner gets up and shuts the door. Then you will stand outside and knock on the door, saying,‘ Lord, open up for us!’ He will answer you,‘ I don’t know you or where you’re from.’

a throne will be established in love, and one will sit on it faithfully in the tent of David, judging and pursuing what is right, quick to execute justice.

“ At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.Five of them were foolish and five were wise.When the foolish took their lamps, they didn’t take oil with them;but the wise ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps.When the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.“ In the middle of the night there was a shout:‘ Here’s the groom! Come out to meet him.’“ Then all the virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.The foolish ones said to the wise ones,‘ Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’“ The wise ones answered,‘ No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Go instead to those who sell oil, and buy some for yourselves.’“ When they had gone to buy some, the groom arrived, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

Therefore, may my advice seem good to you my king. Separate yourself from your sins by doing what is right, and from your injustices by showing mercy to the needy. Perhaps there will be an extension of your prosperity.”

I have a hope in God, which these men themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection, both of the righteous and the unrighteous.

But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.

Therefore, since the promise to enter his rest remains, let us beware that none of you be found to have fallen short.

Are you a king because you excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink and administer justice and righteousness? Then it went well with him.He took up the case of the poor and needy; then it went well. Is this not what it means to know me? This is the LORD’s declaration.But you have eyes and a heart for nothing except your own dishonest profit, shedding innocent blood and committing extortion and oppression.

“ When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on the left.Then the King will say to those on his right,‘ Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.“‘ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me; I was in prison and you visited me.’“ Then the righteous will answer him,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?When did we see you a stranger and take you in, or without clothes and clothe you?When did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit you?’“ And the King will answer them,‘ Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’“ Then he will also say to those on the left,‘ Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink;I was a stranger and you didn’t take me in; I was naked and you didn’t clothe me, sick and in prison and you didn’t take care of me.’“ Then they too will answer,‘ Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help you?’“ Then he will answer them,‘ Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’“ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

“ This is what the Lord GOD says: You have gone too far, princes of Israel! Put away violence and oppression and do what is just and right. Put an end to your evictions of my people.” This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.

Many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, and some to disgrace and eternal contempt.

King Zedekiah later sent for him and received him, and in his house privately asked him,“ Is there a word from the LORD?”“ There is,” Jeremiah responded. He continued,“ You will be handed over to the king of Babylon.”Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah,“ How have I sinned against you or your servants or these people that you have put me in prison?Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, claiming,‘ The king of Babylon will not come against you and this land’?So now please listen, my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Don’t send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.”So King Zedekiah gave orders, and Jeremiah was placed in the guard’s courtyard. He was given a loaf of bread each day from the bakers’ street until all the bread was gone from the city. So Jeremiah remained in the guard’s courtyard.

but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.

“ Just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man:People went on eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage until the day Noah boarded the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.It will be the same as it was in the days of Lot: People went on eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building.But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all.

Wicked behavior is detestable to kings, since a throne is established through righteousness.

He will judge your people with righteousness and your afflicted ones with justice.

The appearance was so terrifying that Moses said, I am trembling with fear.

For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds. The upright will see his face.

on the day when God judges what people have kept secret, according to my gospel through Christ Jesus.

Our God is coming; he will not be silent! Devouring fire precedes him, and a storm rages around him.On high, he summons heaven and earth in order to judge his people:

This is what the LORD says: Administer justice and righteousness. Rescue the victim of robbery from his oppressor. Don’t exploit or brutalize the resident alien, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place.

I tremble in awe of you; I fear your judgments.

So all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered in Jerusalem within the three days. On the twentieth day of the ninth month, all the people sat in the square at the house of God, trembling because of this matter and because of the heavy rain.

But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin’s power, so that the promise might be given on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ to those who believe.

Woe to you, land, when your king is a youth and your princes feast in the morning.Blessed are you, land, when your king is a son of nobles and your princes feast at the proper time— for strength and not for drunkenness.

That very night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was killed,

Do you really speak righteously, you mighty ones? Do you judge people fairly?No, you practice injustice in your hearts; with your hands you weigh out violence in the land.

Since I called out and you refused, extended my hand and no one paid attention,since you neglected all my counsel and did not accept my correction,I, in turn, will laugh at your calamity. I will mock when terror strikes you,when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when trouble and stress overcome you.Then they will call me, but I won’t answer; they will search for me, but won’t find me.Because they hated knowledge, didn’t choose to fear the LORD,were not interested in my counsel, and rejected all my correction,they will eat the fruit of their way and be glutted with their own schemes.For the apostasy of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them.

Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship.

When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth over his body, and fasted. He lay down in sackcloth and walked around subdued.

Therefore, let’s make a covenant before our God to send away all the foreign wives and their children, according to the counsel of my lord and of those who tremble at the command of our God. Let it be done according to the law.

God stands in the divine assembly; he pronounces judgment among the gods:“ How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? SelahProvide justice for the needy and the fatherless; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.Rescue the poor and needy; save them from the power of the wicked.”

My hand made all these things, and so they all came into being. This is the LORD’s declaration. I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at my word.

So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

The God of Israel spoke; the Rock of Israel said to me,“ The one who rules the people with justice, who rules in the fear of God,

The LORD reigns! Let the peoples tremble. He is enthroned between the cherubim. Let the earth quake.

Though Herod wanted to kill John, he feared the crowd since they regarded John as a prophet.When Herod’s birthday celebration came, Herodias’s daughter danced before them and pleased Herod.So he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.Prompted by her mother, she answered,“ Give me John the Baptist’s head here on a platter.”Although the king regretted it, he commanded that it be granted because of his oaths and his guests.So he sent orders and had John beheaded in the prison.

Don’t spend your energy on women or your efforts on those who destroy kings.It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine or for rulers to desire beer.Otherwise, he will drink, forget what is decreed, and pervert justice for all the oppressed.

because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and because you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I myself have heard’— this is the LORD’s declaration.

On the day of our king, the princes are sick with the heat of wine— there is a conspiracy with traitors.

“ The LORD of Armies says this: These people say: The time has not come for the house of the LORD to be rebuilt.”

For God will bring every act to judgment, including every hidden thing, whether good or evil.

I also observed under the sun: there is wickedness at the place of judgment and there is wickedness at the place of righteousness.I said to myself,“ God will judge the righteous and the wicked, since there is a time for every activity and every work.”

“ Come, let’s settle this,” says the LORD.“ Though your sins are scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are crimson red, they will be like wool.

But if all are prophesying and some unbeliever or outsider comes in, he is convicted by all and is called to account by all.The secrets of his heart will be revealed, and as a result he will fall facedown and worship God, proclaiming,“ God is really among you.”

Don’t give sleep to your eyes or slumber to your eyelids.Escape like a gazelle from a hunter, like a bird from a hunter’s trap.

Then the king of Israel ordered,“ Take Micaiah and return him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Joash, the king’s son,and say,‘ This is what the king says: Put this guy in prison and feed him only a little bread and water until I come back safely.’”

But when the Jews from Thessalonica found out that the word of God had been proclaimed by Paul at Berea, they came there too, agitating and upsetting the crowds.

a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, and strength to those who repel attacks at the city gate.Even these stagger because of wine and stumble under the influence of beer: Priest and prophet stagger because of beer. They are confused by wine. They stumble because of beer. They are muddled in their visions. They stumble in their judgments.

I heard, and I trembled within; my lips quivered at the sound. Rottenness entered my bones; I trembled where I stood. Now I must quietly wait for the day of distress to come against the people invading us.

Now we know that whatever the law says, it speaks to those who are subject to the law, so that every mouth may be shut and the whole world may become subject to God’s judgment.For no one will be justified in his sight by the works of the law, because the knowledge of sin comes through the law.

Come now, you who say,“ Today or tomorrow we will travel to such and such a city and spend a year there and do business and make a profit.”Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring— what your life will be! For you are like vapor that appears for a little while, then vanishes.

I clothed myself in righteousness, and it enveloped me; my just decisions were like a robe and a turban.

You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy more than your companions.

Rejoice, young person, while you are young, and let your heart be glad in the days of your youth. And walk in the ways of your heart and in the desire of your eyes; but know that for all of these things God will bring you to judgment.

“ But get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Agrippa said to Paul,“ Are you going to persuade me to become a Christian so easily?”

If you see oppression of the poor and perversion of justice and righteousness in the province, don’t be astonished at the situation, because one official protects another official, and higher officials protect them.

At the same time he was also hoping that Paul would offer him money. So he sent for him quite often and conversed with him.
