Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.

Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son,and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.

Using the law of Moses and the books of the prophets, he spoke to them from morning until evening.Some were persuaded by the things he said, but others did not believe.And after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul:“ The Holy Spirit was right when he said to your ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,‘ Go and say to this people: When you hear what I say, you will not understand. When you see what I do, you will not comprehend.For the hearts of these people are hardened, and their ears cannot hear, and they have closed their eyes— so their eyes cannot see, and their ears cannot hear, and their hearts cannot understand, and they cannot turn to me and let me heal them.’So I want you to know that this salvation from God has also been offered to the Gentiles, and they will accept it.”

“ But now, as to whether there will be a resurrection of the dead— haven’t you ever read about this in the Scriptures? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said,‘ I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead.”

Paul realized that some members of the high council were Sadducees and some were Pharisees, so he shouted,“ Brothers, I am a Pharisee, as were my ancestors! And I am on trial because my hope is in the resurrection of the dead!”This divided the council— the Pharisees against the Sadducees—for the Sadducees say there is no resurrection or angels or spirits, but the Pharisees believe in all of these.

But tell me this— since we preach that Christ rose from the dead, why are some of you saying there will be no resurrection of the dead?For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either.And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.And we apostles would all be lying about God— for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead.And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.In that case, all who have died believing in Christ are lost!And if our hope in Christ is only for this life, we are more to be pitied than anyone in the world.But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man.Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back.After that the end will come, when he will turn the Kingdom over to God the Father, having destroyed every ruler and authority and power.For Christ must reign until he humbles all his enemies beneath his feet.And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.For the Scriptures say,“ God has put all things under his authority.”( Of course, when it says“ all things are under his authority,” that does not include God himself, who gave Christ his authority.)

except for the one time I shouted out,‘ I am on trial before you today because I believe in the resurrection of the dead!’”

Now I am on trial because of my hope in the fulfillment of God’s promise made to our ancestors.In fact, that is why the twelve tribes of Israel zealously worship God night and day, and they share the same hope I have. Yet, Your Majesty, they accuse me for having this hope!
