千夫长答应了，保罗就站在台阶上向众人挥手示意，他们都安静下来，保罗用希伯来话对他们说：

但如果只是关于字句、名称和你们犹太律法的争论，你们自己去解决吧，我不受理！”

人若得罪了别人，有上帝为他们调解。但人若得罪了耶和华，谁能为他调解呢？”然而，他们不肯听从父亲的话，因为耶和华决意要杀他们。

祂说：“某城有一位既不敬畏上帝也不尊重人的审判官。
