以色列人在當滅的物上犯了罪；因為猶大支派中，謝拉的曾孫，撒底的孫子，迦米的兒子亞干取了當滅的物；耶和華的怒氣就向以色列人發作。

基督既為我們受了咒詛，就贖出我們脫離律法的咒詛；因為經上記着：「凡掛在木頭上都是被咒詛的。」

大家商議要用詭計拿住耶穌，殺他，

求你把我隱藏，使我脫離作惡之人的暗謀和作孽之人的擾亂。他們磨舌如刀，發出苦毒的言語，好像比準了的箭，要在暗地射完全人；他們忽然射他，並不懼怕。他們彼此勉勵設下惡計；他們商量暗設網羅，說：誰能看見？他們圖謀奸惡，說：我們是極力圖謀的。他們各人的意念心思是深的。

掃羅就對以色列眾人說：「你們站在一邊，我與我兒子約拿單也站在一邊。」百姓對掃羅說：「你看怎樣好就去行吧！」掃羅禱告耶和華－以色列的神說：「求你指示實情。」於是掣籤掣出掃羅和約拿單來；百姓盡都無事。掃羅說：「你們再掣籤，看是我，是我兒子約拿單」，就掣出約拿單來。掃羅對約拿單說：「你告訴我，你做了甚麼事？」約拿單說：「我實在以手裏的杖，用杖頭蘸了一點蜜嘗了一嘗。這樣我就死嗎？」掃羅說：「約拿單哪，你定要死！若不然，願神重重地降罰與我。」

若有人不愛主，這人可詛可咒。主必要來！

眾人都回答說：「他的血歸到我們和我們的子孫身上。」

被取的人有當滅的物在他那裏，他和他所有的必被火焚燒；因他違背了耶和華的約，又因他在以色列中行了愚妄的事。」

王說：「我今日若容沙法的兒子以利沙的頭仍在他項上，願神重重地降罰與我！」

我卻像柔順的羊羔被牽到宰殺之地；我並不知道他們設計謀害我，說：我們把樹連果子都滅了吧！將他從活人之地剪除，使他的名不再被紀念。

約拿單沒有聽見他父親叫百姓起誓，所以伸手中的杖，用杖頭蘸在蜂房裏，轉手送入口內，眼睛就明亮了。百姓中有一人對他說：「你父親曾叫百姓嚴嚴地起誓說，今日吃甚麼的，必受咒詛；因此百姓就疲乏了。」
