但如果你們心裡懷著苦毒的嫉妒和爭競，就不要自誇、說謊而抵擋真理。這種智慧不是從上面下來的，而是屬地的，屬血氣的，屬鬼魔的。要知道，哪裡有嫉妒和爭競，哪裡就有混亂和各樣的惡事。至於從上面來的智慧，首先是純潔的，然後是和平的、謙和的、溫順的，滿有憐憫和美好的果子的，是不偏私、不虛假的；並且義行的果子，是由那些締造和平的人，在和平中種下的。你們中間的衝突是從哪裡來的？爭執是從哪裡來的？難道不是從你們身體各部分中交戰的私慾而來的嗎？你們渴望而不能擁有，就殺人；你們嫉妒而不能獲得，就爭鬥、作戰。你們不能擁有，是因為你們不求；

我親愛的弟兄們，你們應當知道：每個人都該快快地聽，不急於發言、不急於動怒，

忘記神的人哪，你們當領悟這事，免得我撕碎你們，沒有人解救！

這個人被猶太人抓住，正要被他們殺害的時候，我帶軍隊到場，得知他是羅馬公民，就把他救了出來。

眾人聽了，就滿腔怒火，喊叫說：「以弗所人偉大的阿蒂米絲！」於是滿城一片混亂。他們抓住與保羅同來的馬其頓人蓋尤斯和亞里達古，一齊衝進劇場。保羅雖然想要進到民眾當中，但門徒們不讓他去。還有一些亞細亞省的官員，是保羅的朋友，也派人勸他不要自己冒險到劇場去。

免得他們像獅子那樣撕裂我，撕碎我，也沒有人解救。

保羅的外甥聽見了這埋伏的事，就過來進了營樓告訴保羅。

於是全城的人都被煽動了，民眾一起跑來，抓住保羅，把他拖出聖殿，殿門立刻關上了。在他們想殺保羅的時候，有消息上報到軍團的千夫長，說全耶路撒冷都混亂了。千夫長立即帶著士兵和幾個百夫長跑下去，到了他們那裡。他們一看見千夫長和士兵們，就停止毆打保羅。於是千夫長上前抓住保羅，下令用兩條鐵鏈把他捆起來，然後查問他到底是什麼人，做了什麼事。人群當中，有的喊這個，有的喊那個；千夫長因為騷亂，無法知道真相，就下令把保羅帶到營樓裡去。保羅到了臺階上的時候，由於人群凶猛，士兵們只好把他抬起來走。那一群人跟在後面，喊叫：「除掉他！」
