如果你們心中存著刻薄的嫉妒和自私，就不可誇口，也不可說謊抵擋真理。這種智慧不是從天上來的，而是屬地的、屬血氣的和屬鬼魔的。因為凡有嫉妒和自私的地方，就必有擾亂和各樣的壞事。至於從天上來的智慧，首先是純潔的，其次是和平的，溫柔的，謙遜的，滿有恩慈和善果，沒有偏袒，沒有虛偽。這是締造和平的人，用和平所培植出來的義果。你們中間的爭執和打鬥是從哪裡來的呢？不是從你們肢體中好鬥的私慾來的嗎？你們放縱貪慾，如果得不到，就殺人；你們嫉妒，如果一無所得，就打鬥爭執。你們得不到，因為你們不求；

我親愛的弟兄們，你們要知道，人人都應該快快地聽，慢慢地說，慢一點動怒；

忘記神的人哪！你們要思想這事，免得我把你們撕碎，沒有人能搭救。

你們吃我民的肉，剝他們的皮，打斷他們的骨頭，切成像鍋裡的塊，像釜中的肉塊。

免得他們像獅子一般把我撕裂，把我撕碎的時候，也沒有人搭救。

但保羅的外甥聽見這項埋伏的詭計，就到營樓去，告訴保羅。

於是全城震動，民眾一齊跑來，捉住保羅，拉出殿外，殿門就立刻關起來了。他們正想殺他的時候，有人報告營部的千夫長，說：“整個耶路撒冷都亂了！”千夫長立刻帶著一些百夫長和士兵跑到他們那裡。眾人一看見千夫長和士兵，就停止毆打保羅。於是千夫長上前捉住保羅，吩咐人用兩條鐵鍊捆住他，問他是甚麼人，作過甚麼事。那時眾人叫這個喊那個，吵吵鬧鬧，以致千夫長沒有辦法知道真相，只好下令把保羅帶到營樓去。保羅到了臺階下面的時候，士兵把他抬起來，因為群眾猛擠，而且有一群人跟在後面叫喊：“幹掉他！”
