“ So I thought to myself that I had to act in strong opposition to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, after receiving authority from the chief priests, but I also cast my vote against them when they were being put to death.And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and since I was extremely enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities.

Now Saul approved of putting Stephen to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.Some devout men buried Stephen, and mourned loudly for him.But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house; and he would drag away men and women and put them in prison.Therefore, those who had been scattered went through places preaching the word.

All those hearing him continued to be amazed, and were saying,“ Is this not the one who in Jerusalem destroyed those who called on this name, and had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?”

For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to the righteousness which is in the Law, found blameless.

About that time a major disturbance occurred in regard to the Way.

When they had driven him out of the city, they began stoning him; and the witnesses laid aside their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.

But Ananias answered,“ Lord, I have heard from many people about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints in Jerusalem;and here he has authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”

Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,and asked for letters from him to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them in shackles to Jerusalem.

and he began speaking boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained the way of God more accurately to him.

She followed Paul and us and cried out repeatedly, saying,“ These men are bond servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you a way of salvation.”

But I confess this to you, that in accordance with the Way, which they call a sect, I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and is written in the Prophets;

But when some were becoming hardened and disobedient, speaking evil of the Way before the people, he withdrew from them and took the disciples away with him, and had discussions daily in the school of Tyrannus.

even though I was previously a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;and the grace of our Lord was more than abundant, with the faith and love which are found in Christ Jesus.It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost.
