“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.

“ I am a Jew. I was born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but I grew up here in Jerusalem. I studied with Gamaliel. I was well trained by him in the law given to our people long ago. I wanted to serve God as much as any of you do today.

“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God as all of you are this day.

Then Paul said,“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, and I was brought up and educated here in Jerusalem under Gamaliel. As his student, I was carefully trained in our Jewish laws and customs. I became very zealous to honor God in everything I did, just like all of you today.

He continued,“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strictness of our ancestral law. I was zealous for God, just as all of you are today.

“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the Law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today.

“ I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers’ law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today.

I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as ye all are this day:

He continued,“ I am a Jewish man, born in Tarsus of Cilicia but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel and educated according to the strict view of our patriarchal law. Being zealous for God, just as all of you are today,

I am verily a man[ which am] a Jew, born in Tarsus,[ a city] in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel,[ and] taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.

“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated with strictness under Gamaliel according to the law of our ancestors, and was zealous for God just as all of you are today.

“ I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict tradition of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as you all are today.

The Lord told him,“ Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. (niv)

But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law, who was honored by all the people, stood up in the Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside for a little while. (niv)

circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee;as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless. (niv)

They have known me for a long time and can testify, if they are willing, that I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee. (niv)

Paul answered,“ I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.” (niv)

When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul:“ You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law. (niv)

She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. (niv)

I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. (niv)

Surely it is you who love the people; all the holy ones are in your hand. At your feet they all bow down, and from you receive instruction, (niv)

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I. (niv)

Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen( as it was called)— Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia— who began to argue with Stephen. (niv)

Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin,“ My brothers, I am a Pharisee, descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.” (niv)

Elisha returned to Gilgal and there was a famine in that region. While the company of the prophets was meeting with him, he said to his servant,“ Put on the large pot and cook some stew for these prophets.” (niv)

For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. (niv)

I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. (niv)

Then I went to Syria and Cilicia. (niv)

Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, (niv)

Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them.It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you. (niv)

After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. (niv)

With them they sent the following letter: The apostles and elders, your brothers, To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia: Greetings. (niv)

and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. (niv)

When the believers learned of this, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus. (niv)

The king summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them.( Now the Gibeonites were not a part of Israel but were survivors of the Amorites; the Israelites had sworn to spare them, but Saul in his zeal for Israel and Judah had tried to annihilate them.) (niv)

The governor read the letter and asked what province he was from. Learning that he was from Cilicia, (niv)

He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. (niv)
