在他们想杀保罗的时候，有消息上报到军团的千夫长，说全耶路撒冷都混乱了。千夫长立即带着士兵和几个百夫长跑下去，到了他们那里。他们一看见千夫长和士兵们，就停止殴打保罗。

于是彼拉多吩咐把耶稣带走，鞭打了。

这个人被犹太人抓住，正要被他们杀害的时候，我带军队到场，得知他是罗马公民，就把他救了出来。

当士兵们用皮条捆上保罗的时候，他对站在旁边的百夫长说：“你们鞭打一个没有被定罪的罗马公民，可以吗？”百夫长听了，就来到千夫长面前，报告说：“你要做什么呢？要知道，这个人是罗马公民。”千夫长就前来问保罗：“告诉我，你是罗马公民吗？”保罗说：“是的。”千夫长说：“我花了一大笔钱，才买到了罗马公民权。”保罗说：“我生下来就是。”于是那些要拷问他的人，立刻退下了。千夫长既知道他是罗马公民，又因为捆绑了他，就惧怕起来。

那群人就一同起来反对保罗和赛拉斯。官长们就剥了他们的衣服，下令用棍子打，打了很多棍以后，把他们投进监狱，吩咐狱卒好好地看守。
