A man named Ananias lived there. He was a godly man, deeply devoted to the law, and well regarded by all the Jews of Damascus.

Someone named Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good reputation with all the Jews residing there,

And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt[ there],

A man named Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well spoken of by all the Jews who live there,

One Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,

They said,“ We were sent by Cornelius, a Roman officer. He is a devout and God fearing man, well respected by all the Jews. A holy angel instructed him to summon you to his house so that he can hear your message.”

And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.

Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.

Also, people outside the church must speak well of him so that he will not be disgraced and fall into the devil’s trap.

At that time there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him

( Some devout men came and buried Stephen with great mourning.)

We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors.

In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision,“ Ananias!”“ Yes, Lord,” he answered.The Lord told him,“ Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”“ Lord,” Ananias answered,“ I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem.And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”But the Lord said to Ananias,“ Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said,“ Brother Saul, the Lord— Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here— has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, (niv)

Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women. (niv)
