Paul said,“ I am a Jewish man from Tarsus of Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. Now I ask you, let me speak to the people.”

保罗回答说：“我是犹太人，是奇里乞亚省的塔尔苏人，并不是无名之城的公民，请求你准许我向民众说话。”

保羅說：「我本是猶太人，生在基利家的大數，並不是無名小城的人。求你准我對百姓說話。」

保羅回答說：「我是猶太人，是奇里乞亞省的塔爾蘇人，並不是無名之城的公民，請求你准許我向民眾說話。」

葆樂曰：『吾籍猶太、生於基利嘉笪爾數、非蕞爾小邑之公民也！請准我向眾訴說。』

Paul answered,“ I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.”

Paul answered,“ I am a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia. I am a citizen of an important city. Please let me speak to the people.”

Paul replied,“ I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no obscure city. I beg you, permit me to speak to the people.”

“ No,” Paul replied,“ I am a Jew and a citizen of Tarsus in Cilicia, which is an important city. Please, let me talk to these people.”

But Paul said,“ I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no insignificant city; and I beg you, allow me to speak to the people.”

But Paul said,“ I am a Jew from Tarsus, in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city; and I implore you, permit me to speak to the people.”

But Paul said, I am a Jew, of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and I beseech thee, give me leave to speak unto the people.

Paul said,“ I am a Jewish man from Tarsus of Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. Now I ask you, let me speak to the people.”

But Paul said, I am a man[ which am] a Jew of Tarsus,[ a city] in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.

Paul answered,“ I am a Jew from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of an important city. Please allow me to speak to the people.”

But Paul said,“ I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no insignificant city. I beg you, allow me to speak to the people.”

He continued,“ I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia but brought up in this city, educated at the feet of Gamaliel according to the strictness of our ancestral law. I was zealous for God, just as all of you are today.

“ Get up and go to the street called Straight,” the Lord said to him,“ to the house of Judas, and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, since he is praying there.

Opposition arose, however, from some members of the Freedmen’s Synagogue, composed of both Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia, and they began to argue with Stephen.

As they stretched him out for the lash, Paul said to the centurion standing by,“ Is it legal for you to scourge a man who is a Roman citizen and is uncondemned?”When the centurion heard this, he went and reported to the commander, saying,“ What are you going to do? For this man is a Roman citizen.”The commander came and said to him,“ Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?”“ Yes,” he said.The commander replied,“ I bought this citizenship for a large amount of money.”“ But I was born a citizen,” Paul said.So those who were about to examine him withdrew from him immediately. The commander too was alarmed when he realized Paul was a Roman citizen and he had bound him.

After he read it, he asked what province he was from. When he learned he was from Cilicia,

but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.

As he was about to be brought into the barracks, Paul said to the commander,“ Am I allowed to say something to you?” He replied,“ You know how to speak Greek?

He traveled through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or a meddler.But if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify God in having that name.

They wrote:“ From the apostles and the elders, your brothers, To the brothers and sisters among the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings.

But Paul said to them,“ They beat us in public without a trial, although we are Roman citizens, and threw us in jail. And now are they going to send us away secretly? Certainly not! On the contrary, let them come themselves and escort us out.”

When the brothers found out, they took him down to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.

When this man had been seized by the Jews and was about to be killed by them, I arrived with my troops and rescued him because I learned that he is a Roman citizen.
